    Interstate Park — Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway

    Great park, plenty around the area...BUT THE NOISE!!!

    Interstate Park in Wisconsin is just south of HWY 8 on HWY 35.  The entrance is located on the west side of HWY 35 in the town of St. Croix Falls.  St Croix Falls is a small town with a nice downtown on the river with plenty of restaurants (Dalles House Restaurant and Lounge is a favorite) and places for necessities. There are coffee shops, hotels and even a Wal-Mart nearby.  There is also a casino in the town of Turtle Lake about 30 mins away.

    The park is home to the western terminus of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail that covers 1200 miles through Wisconsin.  The park also offers a Ice Age Interpretive Center which boasts interactive activities and displays of the last Ice Age.  The park is also home to several other trails worth discovering.

    There are two campgrounds in the park, a North and South campground as well as two group campsites.  The South is a bit more rustic.  The showers are located at the North campground.

    For amenities there are flush toilets and showers.  There is a sandy swimming area available as well as boat launch and other water activities. 

    This park is beautiful especially being on the cliffs of the St. Croix River offering spectacular views through out the park and the area.  You can even take the bridge over to Taylor Falls Park Minnesota for more spectacular views as well as other shopping options.  If you take this trip, Taylor Falls Park will be on the South and your shopping options will be to your North.

    Even being in such a wonderful location with plenty of activities and amenities, I find the camping hard to enjoy at this park for all the noise that generates from the  hwy crossing over the river.  The sound especially of the semi trucks and their brakes that go all night long. This is the big reason for the average rating for this campground.

    Boot Lake Campground

    Quiet and Quaint

    Boot Lake is located about 5 minutes outside the town of Townsend in North Central Wisconsin. It is a smaller rustic campground with large and unique campsites! There are pit toilets but no bathrooms or showers. Drinking water is available. There is a nice large beach with good swimming and fishing! There are some restaurants and places to pick up necessities with a 10 min. Drive. The trails available at the campground will take you around the campgrounds but nowhere else. This is the perfect campground for setting up for a few days and not wanting to go anywhere and do nothing but what camping is supposed to be and the type of campground you will come back to if you like quiet and relaxing camping

    Moon Lake City Park

    Used to Be Great

    The Pro's: Been camping here for many years as seasonal guest. We love it and the kids love it. Lake provides hours of fun for the Kids and us with Kayaking, fishing and just enjoying the summer weather. The last weekend of July they host the Blueberry fest, one of the main reason we stay year after year. If you are ever in town the last weekend of July be sure to stop by it a great time. We camp on the wooded side but each site on both sides come with electric hook ups and recently they have added WIFi for those rainy days. Its Close to town where there are great places to eat and the grocery store is very well prices considering the location.  Over all its a pretty peaceful place to camp.

    The Con's: There is no water portable water availed here. We travel about a mile down the road a few times a month to get water to put into our camper. There is also no place to dump at your site however their is a dump station down by the Showers and Restrooms. The showers are a little rough but they get the job done. This place use to be the place many family would come for generations. At one point there was a waitlist for seasonal sites. However the town allowed the Options of two outsiders to dictate how the park was ran and one whom lives across from the park will excessively contact the local police department for the slightest of things.  All of this and the constant harassment of one local, who will drive through the park daily to take pictures and file complaints with the town office has drove many families away. Which is really unfortunate since it provided income to the town not just in the park fees but visits to local business. 

    If you are planning a weekend trip I do still highly recommend give Moon lake a try all the negative Nacy's aside it is a lovely place to camp and a get place to fish. Rumor is there is a Monster Pike in these waters,

    Just visited Smokey Hollow Campground last weekend, and it was incredible! The peace of nature is so rejuvenating. Pro tip: the driving directions were spot on which made finding the place super easy. It's a great reminder that planning can really enhance our outdoor experiences—can’t wait to go back!

    Door County KOA Holiday

    Wonderful area to get away from things but not be right in the Door County

    We stayed at site 81 which is a group site. My parents stayed next to us. This is our second year in a row in these same sites for one of the Halloween Weekend events. The sites are nice and spacious but close enough together for a group to use the space between nicely. There is a nice firepit in the center of all of the group sites that is open for anyone to use- which we did daily due to the coldness. The site is in "the field" not in "the trees" as my mom would say.(We've stayed in the trees before and found it a little tight but more private than the field sites.) There is a nice sized bounce pad for the kids and it looked like there was group activities for the kids, but we did not participate as our kids are adults. 

    Overall, We like this campground. We have camped here before the KOA take over and will continue to into the future.(Although I wish they would let the people who ran the Haunted House come back- this was a big draw for Halloween weekend!)
