Free City Camping

Free electric camping on grass in city park for 72 hrs! Lots of trees and/open spaces. Bath house/tornado shelter when needed. Easy walk to stores in the small downtown area. Very quiet and peaceful at night! Donations appreciated.

Tiny quiet campground

2 spot next to a baseball field in a cute little town. Peaceful simple site to recoup after a long day of driving. The 2 negatives I will say was that the women's restroom was locked while we were here so we had to use the men's and the amount of yellow jackets at the site is scary to someone that…

Quiet location on a hill, and excellent value for families!

I stayed here with my family over the 4th of July weekend (2021). This is basically the only time of year this campground consistently fills up. There were 2 open spots when we arrived Friday afternoon (in the main camping area, anyway; there are other electric-only sites near the tennis court that…

  • The sledding hill just to the west... great views from the top!

Clean well kept limited full hookup sites

Overall this park is average the sites are level and grassy limited shade sites tho, showers and bathrooms are close by and it’s quiet except the occasional train. It’s walking distance from the dirt track. Dumpsters close and trash barrels at each site which they empty often. Mostly weekenders…

What a gem.

The generosity of this fine town of 1,420 good folks. Full electric, waste cans, some picnic tables, and a restroom with showers. These are shared with the well maintained playground. It is a "free will offering" facility. No registration, first come first served basis. We were the only campers…

Great place to stop for a few days

This park is a nice little stop in a super small town. We came through just to visit the Ingall’s homestead and enjoyed this peace and quiet so much we decided to stay for four days.

It’s self service, so first come first served. We were the only ones here for a day or so and then a few others…

Family Friendly, too many cars on Friday

Nice pebble beach, playgrounds, and walking areas. Flat camper parking. Power was great and showers were clean. Electric only. There is an area to dump waste on the exit. Stopped on Sunday on the way westward and the place was empty, stopped Friday on the way home and it was packed. Lots of kids…

On the shores of Kampeska

Camp host greeted us upon arrival and helped put water on. We stayed 2 nights, in town for a wedding. Most of the sites were flooded with only 3 available, we were the only TT along with the camp host. Showers were clean and ADA. The beach was mere feet out the rear of the trailer. Watertown is…

Best Sunset on the Prairie

I’ll admit - I chose this campground because I am a HUGE Laura Ingalls Wilder nerd and it is on one of the lakes where she and Almanzo took their Sunday drives and just a few miles from the LIW Memorial Society in DeSmet. Apart from all that, this is a gem of a campground. We were fortunate to get…

Awesome sunsets; nice campground

We were searching for a place to land for the night and after a couple of failed attempts at other places, decided to come here. Sites (many with lake views) are spacious and very reasonably priced ($22 for electric/water and$30 for full hookup). Mid-week was very quiet and peaceful; I imagine that…

Camp in a quaint small town

We decided not to stay here because it’s right in town and very visible. There are a few RV spots and room for tents. They have a great playground. If you’re timing is right you can catch a ballgame without leaving you campsite.

Town is a block away. It’s a beautiful small town. They had a…

No contact from host

We had a reservation and told them we would be coming in late due to a family reservation in another campground. The woman I spoke with said that wasn't a problem and that, if the office was closed, she'd be in the house next door. The office WAS closed so I knocked on the door. No answer. I called…
