    Stickney City Park

    Overnight stay

We needed a place to stay overnight while we were passing through. This area is open, has bathroom and showers, it also has volleyball courts and possibly other recreational activities. It has electric hook up and fire rings. We were the only ones here overnight on a Saturday during Labor Day weekend.

    Stickney City Park

    Quiet City Park

Needed a quick night's stay to break up a long drive, and this was the perfect spot. We ended up being the only campers overnight. Spots are mostly level -we didn't even have to unhook from our hitch(we have a 15' travel trailer on a 2" ball), all we did was throw stabilizers down. Access to city park amenities: kids' playground, pool(which was not open while we were here unfortunately), volleyball court & tennis courts. There is also firewood available as well as fire rings. On-site bathrooms were adequate, and showers were usable but not in the best condition. Overall great stay, especially for the $20 a night.

    Twin Lakes Campground

Quiet and calm but for the flies

A great well maintained spot in the middle SD farmland near a peaceful lake.

The long dirt/gravel road surrounding was fun to navigate after a thunderstorm, but not too bad at 35mph.

It took a minute to find as the gps coordinates took me to a private property. Twin Lakes, Lakeside Use Area might work better.

Just turn right off of County Road 7, if you’re heading east, once you get pretty close, and after you’ve made your “deal with the devil” at the 4-way stop, and it’s only 100 yds or so.

There were a ton of obnoxious flies, as mentioned in another review, but only in the daytime. But they were not the biting kind. At nighttime, the insects were fine after applying a little repellent.

If you’re just looking for a free, quiet place to crash for the night, this site is definitely worth the drive off the freeway.

No water or electric, or picnic tables, but each site does have a fire ring. The park also has 2 vault toilets.

    Pioneer / Montrose City Campground

    Great overnight stop

This campground was not far off I90 and was easy to find and navigate. Gravel sites in the pull through. Water and electric with a dump station. Lots of grass and places to walk the dog. Bath house was clean and close by. There is a small play area and also a pool with a lifeguard. It does cost extra but I’m sure it’s affordable. The camp host were so very nice and friendly. We had a small problem when we were getting ready to leave. And he was there ready to help and offer any assistance. And she called a place nearby to check on hours and service.
We ate the nice restaurant in town…My Place… and it was very good! Would definitely return and recommend!

    Hills RV Park

    Quiet & Clean

Can't give them anything more than 3 stars unfortunately. We arrived late afternoon for a simple overnight stay. They're literally on Main St. In the smallest downtown I've ever had the pleasure of spending a night. They have a in ground swimming pool. That's been closed and drained in the not so distant past. You'll have a rare opportunity to wash your clothes at their laundromat. The machines are dated yet clean in good working order, a definite plus for many. Even though they're located in a downtown area. It's still dark enough to get a view of the night sky. Campsites are close together. With a tree shading your camper helpful for keeping cool. A small "yard/patch" of grass at each campsite. Our rigs length truck and camper connected is 47'. We were able to pull thru the campsite and park. Without having to unhook. For a simple overnighter that was just another plus in their favor for us. Other campers were just as friendly as the people who owned and ran the campground. Don't expect to do any shopping. There's a Dollar General directly next door. For any basic needs if your so inclined. For us in a nutshell. The price to hookup to electric and water for a overnight stop. Made it a good spot to stop. They do also have sites with sewer hookups available for a higher fee.

    Dakota Sunsets RV Park

Perfect for overnight , close to Highway 90

Small quiet campground surrounded by farmland. Easy pull through sites for RV. Sites a little close together but fine for our needs. Reservation online was easy. Only draw back was early check out at 1000. Clean campground. This was our overnight spot headed out west to Badlands/Black Hills, about 4-5 hours away.
