A great place to spend a week .

We had a great time at this campsite . It is well kept . Full hook-ups and clean . There is so much around there to do . The hosts are very friendly and caring . We are new to rving and in backing up into a site . He helped my husband . If you want to be on the go , then there is so much around, or if you just want to relax, then this is the place to be . We will definitely be back someday.

Friendly staff, spacious sites, in the forest

We had site 59, which was one of the best sites for RVs. It backed up to national forest land, where we saw deer. No road noise at back of campground, very peaceful. Clean bathrooms and extremely friendly staff. I would go back!

A hidden gem

I spent 7 nights here and truly had a great time. I will admit it looks a little sketchy pulling in, but the sites further back are surrounded by the woods and very peaceful. The staff was extraordinarily kind (probably the friendliest I’ve ever met after 2 years on the road). Spots are spaced reasonably far apart and the bathrooms were very clean, if slightly outdated. The proximity to Custer SP and other attractions is great. I was in spot 48 which had a small discount due to the smaller size, but it was the perfect fit for my 17’ camper van. My only complaint is that campers regularly parked their rigs right in the middle of the entrance/exit when checking in/out, which blocks everyone else from entering or leaving—having a sign asking not to park there would be the only improvement I’d suggest.

Tranquil, peaceful and perfect!

My bf and I stayed at Big Pine campground for 4 nights. We really enjoyed our private campsite and enjoyed the location. We did have to have 4 batteries replaced in our RV that was not expected!  The host helped us to find a mobile RV tech and we got it taken care of. No more rotten egg smell, yay!!  The owners/hosts are so friendly and helpful I felt like we’d always known them. We will be back again and hopefully bring some family next time!  Thank you Big Pine campground!!

Great Place to post up for the area

Wanted to make a long weekend and get away. Found one spot #47 open for our visit. Decided to just take it. Glad we did. Overall a good level site (gravel/dirt). Not terribly close to other sites, but not far away either. Solid 20' between sites. Didn't need too many amenities, used their wood bundles ($7 each), and kids used their game room for foosball $0.25 games aren't worth your money. Overall everyone was quiet, listened to the wolves howl at night, pretty cool. Bugs were minimal in June, didn't need bug spray. Would highly recommend.

Great Wifi

The campground meet all our expectations. The sites all the way in the back offer some nice views. Sites decently spaced for the most part. Wifi was excellent. One small thing provided here made common sense, an outdoor sink to wash dishes. My complaints are minimal, my site was not level and the showers were either scorching hot or cold.

Great Black Hills Base Camp!

We camped here two nights to do a couple of things in the Black Hills before heading west across Wyoming.

Everyone who worked here was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were great and the showers were the cleanest I've used at any campground. For those tent camping, there were no designated pads that I saw at any site. We have a larger tent, and our site was smaller and sloping away from a short rise, so we weren't able to situate our tent as well as usual. This wasn't a big issue, but it did storm both nights we were there, and after the first night we did have some water between our tent floor and the footprint that had ran down from the rise.

The fire pit was very sunken, to the point that they provided an above ground iron bowl for fires, however we did not make a fire during our stay. Our site was to the rear of the campground adjacent to the national forest boundary, so the Wifi was poor and often was better to rely on the 1-2 bars we had on Verizon LTE. But it did mean that this part of the campground was very peaceful. There was an opening in the fence along the boundary near our site with a trail leading to the expansive network of trails throughout the Black Hills National Forest.

Overall, this is a very good campground in a great location in the Black Hills, but it does seem that the majority of the sites throughout the campground are definitely better suited for RVs than tents.

*Quick note for Dyrt Pros: They do not provide a 10% discount as advertised on the Dyrt site. I checked at the time of making my reservation as well as upon arriving and was told the only discount they currently offer is to retired and current military members.

Beautiful Nicely Situated Campground

Very nice campground located in close proximity to Custer SP and Mount Rushmore Natl Monument. Wind cave and Jewelcave also within 1 hours drive. The campground owners are friendly, knowledgeable about the area and helpful. They offered to bring firewood to our site and suggested good dining out options upon request. Good clean bathhouses and laundry. There is also a pathway by the tent sites leading into the national forrest which we walked evenings.
Some of the sites are close together but most are well spaced out up a long hill but each one has been carefully leveled. Site 59 is for small rigs only but has the beautiful national forest as its big backyard. From our site we saw wildlife including birds, chipmunk, and deer. Overall very satisfied with our 3 night stay. Would come again and recommend to others.

He pivoted and told me where to go to see buffalo. off i went and 45 minutes later i was among a heard of buffalo. Just spectacular. Great campground near Custer/Rushmore/Wind Cave

I'm giving 5 stars even though it is close to road and has a fair bit of noise, because everything else is very good.  We had a nice site with electricity and water on the edge of the campground with hookups.  The owners are fabulous hosts and will take care of you, just let them know what you need.  It is a family run operation.  Showers/bathrooms are clean and functional, not premier quality but you are camping.  Close to numerous lakes and lodges, the Needles drive, Custer, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Crazy Horse, Rushmore, and all the other local tourist traps you could wish for.

The sites are beautiful and nicely located. It is on the edge of a wide expanse of land, BLM I think. The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome and make sure that you are well situated and have all your needs met. They had me in a site that wasn't exactly  right for my set up but they made sure that everything worked out including lending me a brand new water hose to make the connection. Wonderful location in the mountains- not at all like the RV parking lots I passed on the road.

We stayed at Big Pine for 3 nights. It’s 5 minutes from Custer and close enough to drive to many tourist attractions. The road in and sites are gravel, fairly level and easy to back into. Bathhouse is clean with 4 showers and bathrooms. There is a laundry which we did not use. The store is small but has some necessity items. Although just off the highway, we did not have any road noise on Site 66 which was in the back. Most sites look like they have nice shade. We would stay here again.

Black Hills Perfection

This campground is EXCELLENT! We spent a week in our RV and enjoyed watching the sunset in the hammock after a day of venturing out in the Black Hills. We went to Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave National Park, Spearfish Canyon, Badlands National Park, Wall (for Wall Drug), and several other adventures. We hiked around lakes and had picnics by the water, drove through canyons and small towns trying different local fare and ended the night by our fire pit. The owners brought us firewood and were so accommodating to everyone. They enjoy working on their property and this is very well-groomed. I can’t say anything bad about it. Although I didn’t stay in the tent campground, you can walk out the back of it and take your dog down some of the trails. LOVED this campground !

Above and Beyond

We stayed in this campground in 2019. The first surprise was the owner delivering our ice to us. Each time we needed ice, he was on the golf cart bringing it to us. Unfortunately, while on the Needles Highway, we experienced truck trouble and needed to bring it to a dealer for repairs. They told us at the dealer that we would not be able to get the truck back for a week! We rented a car, but could we extend our stay at the campground? The owner told us that even if he had to move our camper behind the store due to other reservations, we would have a place to stay. We enjoyed that it was on the highway, but back far enough that there was no highway noise. The only issue for us was that we did not have bathroom in our camper, so every time we needed to go, it was either up the hill or down the hill. We usually took the truck (or rental car) to the clean restrooms. We definitely would stay here again.
