Buffalo Ridge

Great campground for exploring the black hills. Large sites with grass and trees. New facilities that were clean. Pool, playground, and snack bar. We enjoyed our 3 nights here.

Hidden Gem

We didn't know what to expect because I couldn't find very many pictures of the actual campground or our site. I was so surprised with this hidden gem! It was probably my favorite campground on our whole South Dakota trip. The bathroom was really nice and clean, the sites were spacious and the…

Lots to do and see here!

We’ve stayed at this campground twice now in the tent-only loop (sites 40-45). The tent-only sites are walk-in, so you park at the top of a small hill and walk down to your site. It is beautiful! Sites are same-day reservation only, so you have to call the campground number starting at 6:00 MT to…

The best of all worlds

This is by far the best camping park I’ve ever been to. Because of early presidential interest (Coolidge & Eisenhower, it’s a combo of NP vista’s & experiences, State Park amenities in stellar shape, & Resort level lodges, shops & restaurants. Hiking, kayaking in several lakes. The…

Spacious, not a lot of privacy tho

While the sites are large there is not a lot of shrub to add privacy between sites. Don't recall any showers here but there are pit bathrooms that were clean. Try to reserve a site on the waterfront side if possible; more privacy and a better view there.

Great campground

This campground has everything you need and then some. There's a playground, pool, mini-golf, basketball and volleyball. There's also a creek that goes thru the tenting area. There are at least 10 cabins and the sites are very nice. Great family campground!

Do NOT stay in #7

Good location. But we got stuck in #7. It had the clean out for all the sewer lines. Flies all over the place.

Great amenities. Day trip to Badlands.

We stayed here for 2 nights. There were full hookups and E/W spots. There were plenty of hot showers, a dump station, laundry, and propane refills, plus a tiny store. The grassy spots were level. Everything was cleaned daily. The only downside was considerable road noise from the freeway, but a fan…

Great Facilities Terrible Views

Right in Custer a big campground with a variety of sleeping options. We had booked two nights here and left within two hours of being there. The road noise for the campsites was constant and significant. The view was industrial from the tent sites. As campers we were disappointed but the facilities…

Spearfish city park

Lovely campground close to 90 but a beauty of a city park. Well maintained and very clean. Along a scenic river with a paved path. Mature trees and level spots. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is because the RV spots are very tight and there are street lights through out which we had spot…

Peaceful small community camping

We spent five days here in June to explore Mount Rushmore and the surrounding areas. Eight full hookup camper sites and several small cabins. Community fire pit was a plus that I originally wasn’t sure about. We had several great nights by the fire that we didn’t have to take care of making s’mores…

Great View of Devils Tower

This campground could be a gem with a little TLC and updating the campsites to be FHU.  There is one building with 2 bathrooms with showers in both.  They could clean them once a day, a suggested improvement.  RV sites are electric only.  Water is located in a strange place on the side of both…

Fantastic campground in the heart of the Black Hills!

We really enjoyed our stay over Memorial Day weekend (2021).

What we liked:

  • Great setting with generous campsites. Not over-crowded; butts up against open field/horse farm, with a really neat creek running through the grounds. Very relaxing atmosphere, especially in the area we stayed…
  • This picture pretty well describes the vibe! Very relaxing setting.
