Camper cabin at Big Bog State Park

Great Campground, we were 1 of only 2 campers there. We went to the Upper Red Lake Beach, right across the street from the Cabins. We also drive to the upper unit and hiked the Big Bog Boardwalk, which was actually light filtering metal - no boards. The bog land was fascinating and the carnivorous…

Family Activities!

Lots of sports and games! We loved the swimming beach with slide and the paddle boats, kayaks, and SUPs. Great playground with beautiful sand, beach volleyball, basketball, and Gaga ball courts. There’s even a game room with a pool table!

The Biggest Bog

Anxious to get camping after a Covid winter, we headed to Big Bog for a 3 day RV trip. The campground was nearly empty, which is always a bonus.

The campground has numerous sites next to the Tamarack River. Many have small docks where you can park your own or a rented boat. Our site was…

Great spot for serious fishermen

This is a combo campground and city park, a joint effort of the Minnesota Dept of Natural Resources and the city of Baudette. While serving the recreational needs of townsfolk, it also provides great access to the famous Rainy River and a good place for out of town fishermen to stay. The campgound…

Lives up to the name

Site 15 was a complete bog. Swamp all around the camper. The entire site, aside from the parking pad, was soggy and wet. The mosquitos were horrid -coming from a MN girl-it was bad. Planned for 3 nights, left after 1. Would be a nice place if you were planning on spending no time by the fire and…

Bare Bones

This little campground is here as overflow for the nearby resort. It is located near the water, oak harbor golf course and the little town of Baudette. Its right off of highway 72 so it is very convenient.

Its also close enough to several waterways from Wheelers Point and Baudette border waterway…

Fishing paradise

The water is high right now so some of the amenities and campsites are water logged. Sites 1-7 were in great spots with waterfront but crammed together. They could use two less sites. I was in site three and it is squeezed in by 2 and 4. Loads of boats and people fishing as the lake is 5 min boat…

Fun Family Campground

We stayed for the weekend at Fox Lake and had a great time. This is a very family friendly campground with a lot of entertainment options. The volleyball and basketball courts are nice and well maintained. The park was fun for the kids and the beach was very nice! The seasonal campers are adjacent…

Nothing Exceptional (but still nice)

  • There is a public water access area.
  • Decent trails for walking, showshoeing, or cross country skiing.
  • Nice playground for kids.
  • There is a host on site in case you have any issues. There is an overlook of the lake with a decent view.
  • There are vault toilets outside of the shower house.

Small Cabin

  • Very small family run resort made up of 3 cabins and ~10 seasonal campsites.
  • The campground is directly on Balm lake. There are beautiful views of the lake from the dock. This makes a great place to watch sunrises and sets. There are canoes, paddle boats, and kayaks for guests to use.

Big Bog

This campground is great for fisherman and a great place to stay if you are interested in studying rare bog plants. The campsites are pretty good, some are nicely set right on the Tamarack River with their own dock, but some are set right on the edge of nearby Hwy 72 which would be a real drawback.…
