This is a State Forest Campground, and for the price of only $14 a night, you can't go wrong. Although you may get some noise from RVs with generators, we visited in late september, and there were enough sites to choose from that we could be away from that noise. Almost every site had a fair amount of space, and some privacy from neighboring sites with brush and foliage. There seemed to be pathways back to little vault toilet houses, and when we visited, they were very clean! They must have been recently cleaned, and there was no smell at all. Perhaps the cooler weather had something to do with that as well.
We had a fire ring that was tall, and deep. With a grate so you could grill. A picnic table, and again, plenty of space for our teardrop trailer. The property had a few small, short trails through the woods, and also boat access.
It's far enough off the main road that you won't hear road noise. You will, however, see and hear deer, and possibly black bear.
There's no electricity, because it's a State Forest campground, but if the price of $14, it's exactly what we wanted for this time of year.
One more bonus is that motorized two-wheel vehicles and off-road vehicles are not allowed past the entrance. That doesn't mean they can't be carried on the back of a truck, but you will not find them riding around this campground. Made things a little bit quieter!
We stayed just one night on our way across country. It was mid-week so very quiet and not packed full. The majority of the sites are open and level but not much shade or privacy to be had. The check-in lady was pleasant and accommodating and we were escorted to our site by her husband. We used their laundry room which was very modern and clean, machines take quarters only, no change machine so take care of that when you are in the store/office checking in. The bathrooms and showers were very clean, and cutely decorated with someone’s beautiful artwork of flowers, a nice touch. We would go back if in the area again, but would try for a site that has some trees. You can tell that they work hard to keep the place clean, attractive and friendly.
What an amazing find and diamond in the rough! This resort is amazing, quiet, clean, friendly people, and pet friendly! Only a 3 mile ride down the gravel to get to ATV trails, and a premium gas pump to fill up with when you get back at the resort after riding. Private boat launch and swimming beach make it fun for the kids and convenient for dad to dock his boat to go fishing. Will definitely book a stay here again, soon!
This place is lovely. It would be especially nice if you had kids to entertain. There is plenty to do here. Bathrooms are clean. We had three small issues. The first issue could have been a big problem but because the park was pretty empty it wasn’t. The very friendly lady that made our reservation got my name, phone number, date of arrival and price all wrong! Perhaps she has dyslexia? It all worked out because the park wasn’t full but if you book here check all the details a few times. The wi-fi password was given to us but we kept getting the error message that the word-fi was unavailable. The only other thing that was annoying was at 5 am I thought someone was mowing the lawn. Turned out be someone was driving around the park in a vehicle that sounded like a lawnmower. It wasn’t a very big vehicle and it had yellow lights on it. Maybe some kind of city vehicle? No more sleep after that. Oh well we got an early start out of there because it woke us up.
There are a lot of things to do/see here. Headwaters, fish on lake itaska miles and miles of hiking/biking trails. Now the camping its really nice on weekdays and its ok on weekends but weekends have more kids and noise as expected. The major downfall was the FLIES they were insane there were so many one day we had to go inside just to get away. So plan on some fly deterrent method. This trip tought us we need it.
If easy camping is what you're looking for, this is it. Our 15X15 tent fit in their listed 12X12 spot. Built in grill on fire rings with park bench and table. Potable water available to everyone. Perfect cell reception as it's eyesight to the city of Bemidji. Self serve wood and ice when office is closed. Even a vending machine. Amazing showers for a camp ground, bathrooms ok and clean. If you want to get away while still being in easy driving range of city. Hiking trails are quite a walk but easy and cleared. Beach, dock, sand volleyball court. Some outdoor showers also available but they were buggy when we went mid July.
