If you’re the kind of camper who measures a site by how many tail wags it inspires, then Campsite 2 at Elm Creek Horse Camp is barking up the right tree.🌲🐶 Tucked away near the archery range(don’t worry—nobody’s aiming at your pup), this campsite offers a solid patch of peace where dogs can sniff, stretch, and settle in by the fire. The ground is mostly level—perfect for a tent and a sturdy dog bed—and the trails? Chef’s kiss. Plenty of new smells, shaded stretches, and squirrels for days. Now, to be clear—this is a horse camp first and foremost. So if your dog isn’t a fan of our four-hooved friends, you might want to steer clear. But if they’re cool with horses and know how to heel when a giant gelding struts by, they’ll be just fine. A few bones to pick: There’s not much privacy between sites, so if your dog’s a talker, your neighbors might get a serenade. And while$16 a night is totally reasonable, the$7.50 reservation fee nips at the budget a bit—especially if you’re staying more than a couple nights. Still, Campsite 2 hits all the right notes: trails close by, fire ring ready, and enough space for a tent, a camp chair, and a dog who thinks every stick is a gift from heaven.🦴 Would we come back? Loved this site! Super peaceful vibes, nice tree cover, flat tent pad, and plenty of space to spread out. 🌳⛺️ It’s tucked just enough off the path to feel private, but not so far that you feel isolated. Clean facilities, water nearby, and the kind of birdsong that makes you forget your emails exist. 🐦📵

Now… the only reason this isn’t a full 5-star banger is the fire ring placement. 🔥 That thing is doing its own thing like 30 feet from the tent pad—felt like I needed a shuttle to roast a marshmallow. 😂 Bring extra lanterns, chairs, and a good sense of humor if you want to hang by the fire after dark.

Still—would camp again in a heartbeat. Great site for anyone who likes a little distance between their tent and their s’mores. 🍫🔥

However the one shower in women’s bathroom has a broken button so doesn’t work at all and the one has a plugged drain and there are 3 inches of sanitary water hazard at the bottom. So unusable. If desperate I say go use the men’s. What else can you do! Also book online before you get there!!!! Also book your car pass separately. I did not see any staff anywhere at any time. You are on your own. Too bad the state can’t afford a single staff to manage the place in the evening. Come on Minnesota… are you really that cheap? Us users are willing to pay you know!!! Charge us more so we can count on stuff being maintained! Otherwise the place is fricken gorgeous!!!!!

First off- the lower area is predominantly for campers and group campsites. Stay up on the hill if you would prefer to be away from the campers. The hill sites have basic portapotties, which was sufficient for most of our needs.

The bathroom facilities down below have running water, toilets, and showers. It was chilly while we were up there, so I can’t report back on how the showers were.

We go to GM often, but normally stay at a cabin outside of town to save money. This was a great way to be in town on a budget. Walking to and from town was a nice ritual, but you will not regret bringing a bike to speed up your commute into town.
