Tascate

We were here 2/20/21 to 2/26/21. Weather was great, mid 70's during the day, 40 to 50 at night.

Horrible roads, takes forever to get anywhere! We loved the Isolation, saw very few people unless we went into the Ranger Station. Bathrooms and showers very clean, although never used showers. Bring…

On The Loneliest Road in Texas

Stayed in early May. Warm days, cool night. First of all. tons of decent hiking, especially if you're the explore-off-the-trail type. Apparently there is a wonderful, full-service lodge, which I saw from above (on a trail) but didn't visit. So if camp food is getting old, mosey over to their…

  • Nice ravine and hills to explore right behind my tent.
  • Ko'olau loved the views from the hikes.
  • Happiness is a smiling dog.

Very nice State park and Campground

We stayed here one night in April 2021 and could have gladly stayed longer. Nice campground, with privacy between sites and some shade. There are good hikes right from the campground , which is nice. It’s much cooler here than other nearby parts of Texas and locals told us that this is generally…

Fine Place To Overnite Before Entering Big Bend

Great small RV park with motel. All spaces with electric and water, showers are great. Has a nice courtyard with large fire pit. Very clean and quite. It’s right off the main road into Big Bend National Park, about a 40 minute drive.

  • Train across the main road, not too frequent

Darkest nights, coolest vibes

Loved this place! Price was super reasonable for FHU at $35 a night! We had a site in the back so it was a little more spread out and away from the road. Might not have been so happy with the front sites. This place has great landscaping and a beautiful courtyard that boasts a nightly fire.…

Great spot for Trans-Pecos camping

The Davis Mountains and the state park offer an opportunity for Texans to experience all the Trans-Pecos has to offer.

With close proximity to McDonald Observatory, Balmorhea, Alpine, Marathon, Marfa, and even close enough for a day trip to Big Bend & Terlingua, this campground is tough to…

A little slice of paradise in west Texas

Historic Prude Ranch! Such a lovely staff, they were incredibly accommodating and helpful. We stayed in the lower rv spots near the road because there was apparently a large group of kids staying in the upper spots. The traffic at night is nearly non-existent (at least in March) and doesn’t cause a…

Beautiful Night Skies

Between the elevation and the dark skies, the nights are spectacular. We have stayed in August 2 years in a row and we loved the cool evenings to sit out and watch the stars. They have a lot of great trails, and you never know what wildlife you will see. We have seen Mule deer, Javalenas, Audad, as…

The Other Side Of Nowhere

If you are looking to get out into the backcountry of Big Bend and truly experience it’s vast remoteness & beauty, then this is one of the best places to do just that. The hiking is incredible & the wildlife is amazing, Black Bears, mountain lions, javelinas, coyotes, big horn sheep, rattle…

Nice Park with a Gem of a Historic Lodge

“The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas!”

Tucked within the heart of the West Texas mountains and one of the darkest skies in the contiguous 48, lies this stunning State Park, built by the CCC in the 1930’s. The beautiful campsites offer privacy, space, and full…

  • View of the lodge from above.
  • I spy Hamlet! Mid week, lots of space in the campground.
  • Beautiful bird blind for us bird nerds.

Great place, but a quick heads up

We spent a few nights at Davis Mountains and it was gorgeous....for southwest Texas, haha. The hiking is great and the spots, we stayed in our NoBo 19.3. We took our 7 year old, 9 year old and 2 dogs on the Skyline Trail hike. It’s one of the longer trails and we had to catch the CCC trail to head…

Rio Grande Access

Stayed at Grassy Bank (this is not an “interior primitive site”)off and on over a three weeks period in mid to late Feb. 2021. There are 17 designated sites and several dispersed. Lovely State Park

Attractive, well maintained large sites, good privacy if no hook ups needed. Site 81 was my favorite. Water, picnic table, fire ring. I’d give it a 5 star review but no cell service, or WiFi.

Helpful staff

After staying in exclusively free, dispersed camping for some time, the $20 felt like a lot, but there are amenities and services, and was worth it- especially in TX where there is little free camping.

I called day of because online reservations can only be made 2 days in advance. The staff…
