Temperatures in the region can exceed 100°F during summer months, with spring and fall offering more comfortable camping conditions in the 70-85°F range.
What to do
Waterfall swimming and jumping: McKinney Falls State Park offers swimming holes with both upper and lower falls areas. "The water was warm, and it was perfect for new swimmers with floaties and advanced swimmers. There's a place where you can jump off the rocks into the water," notes one visitor to McKinney Falls State Park.
River tubing: Watch tubers float by or join in water activities at various riverside campgrounds. "The river access makes this park great. Our side of the park was along the river and had great shade. There are tons of full-time folks, and I can see why. The river is right there," mentions a camper at Pecan Park Riverside RV Park.
Golfing: Lockhart State Park provides a unique camping and golfing combination. "You can golf here and swim in the public pool. The trails are surprisingly nice, even though the park itself is on the small side. Go into town and have some BBQ," recommends a visitor.
Bluebonnet viewing: Spring visitors can catch impressive wildflower displays. "Bluebonnets are amazing here in Spring. Please be careful swimming. If you can't swim, please refrain or wear a life jacket," advises a McKinney Falls camper.
