Fabulous night’s sleep and morning swim and cup of joe! The stars were excellent at night and the sea breeze made for amazing sleeping weather. The morning brought warm sun which allowed for a pleasant frolic in the ocean after waking.
Plenty of space for privacy, very quiet. Sand is very packed and we had no trouble getting in and out. $2 toll if coming from Galveston, so if you come in from the west, this can be avoided.
We stayed here during the week in April, and the weather was perfect. A nice steady breeze kept the mosquitoes away, which we heard can be pretty bad. They have 30 amp FHU sites as well as 50 amp. Also have nice looking cabins for rent. A short walk over a nice boardwalk to the beach. Also half mile walk to the bird sanctuary, which is awesome for bird lovers. Free wifi, but the connection kept dropping. Great 5G connection with Verizon. Level, concrete pads. We required no leveling. Sites are spacious and patio is surrounded with well mowed grass. Campground is on a ship channel and it was fun watching the huge tankers go by. We really enjoyed this park and will return. No shade, so it would be quite hot in summer.
I like state parks and this is a good example why. The sites are well spaced, well maintained and relatively inexpensive. About $20. You can reserve online and the web site has photos of the site so you know it works for you.
Site have electric and water and the dump station is at the entrance of the campground. Easy to hit on your way out.
There are plenty of hiking trails and they have alligators.
If you're looking for a good campground close to Houston, this is your place.
Don’t let the oil refineries scare you, once you get past them it’s a very nice place. We were here in early April and no mosquitoes. Beautiful beach a short walk from the campground.
This park is tucked away from the main highway and roads but is close enough to restaurants and other amenities. Folks are friendly and it is a quiet atmosphere. All the spots are pull throughs. This looks to be an older park so the widths are a bit smaller but manageable but the price makes up for any misgivings.
Saturday, March 20,2021 Surfside Beach Access Road #4 Third day here. Temp 72°, light breeze, bright sun.
A couple of other camping rigs in the distance early this morning along with two část fishermen with pickups at water’s edge. My dogs ran free.
I moved up here from Access Road #1 two days ago to get away from people and noise congestion and was successful.
Any vehicle can drive on the upper beach and there is light traffic during the day from beach day users. Late Last night, there were kids doing wheelies in their pick ups and a very loud ATV blasted by around 2:00 AM so if this kind of thing keeps you awake you’ve been forewarned.
You won’t find camping amenities here, just sun, sand, and surf rolling in with waves big enough for light surfing. Apparently, the fishing is pretty good, too.
The Freeport beaches are popular, but clean (I picked up one small bag of trash from around my site. The County came through this morning with a clean up detail of four.) The beach is wide and there are very small Dunes on the up side to camp against. No chance of water encroaching on your campsite.
Love it here.
Love that the people who camp here are very nice and respectful and don’t have to worry about our one and only son making new friends with children as the children have always been so nice and inviting along with their families especially when they see he is alone playing with just dad and I! Can’t wait to plan next trip here again!
