Quiet and Secluded

This tent site sits in the woods on a hill just above the corner of French Creek and a small tributary creek. It faces northwest over the valley providing amazing sunset views.



This location is on the highside of the Union City Dam which is a dry bed, flood control dam. Which means during snow melt, or rainy streaks, the dam will fill up and flood the entire valley. However during dry spells, French Creek will appear as any other creek. At peak flooding, it will make its way all the way up the tributary valley, making a beautiful lake front campsite (as shown in some photos). Unfortunately, this only occurs a few weeks out of the year (typically early spring and occasionally during wet falls) and is fairly unpredictable. Most of the summer you can still enjoy the view over both the tributary valley and French Creek valley. (Disclaimer: Once or twice a year during the wettest streaks, the water rises high enough to flood the driveway, making it impossible to drive up directly to the campsite. If this happens, you will be notified before so you can choose either to be refunded and not stay or you can park 100 yards up the road and hike into the campsite to enjoy the unique and rare lakefront views. Again, these are natural events that are infrequent and unpredictable, but also provide a truly spectacular setting.)



Located at the end of a dead end dirt road, adjacent to 100's of acres of federal protected land, and within sight of agriculture fields, there is an abundance of wildlife. For over 20 years, an active eagles nest has been located 1 mile north providing amazing opportunities to see either adult or juvenile eagles flying over French Creek hunting for fish. Deer can be seen early morning and late evening in the fields, as well as frequently crossing both valleys. All types of waterfowl flock the lake when it's flooded. I've personally seen up to 1000 geese at one time.



Beyond relaxing and wildlife watching, there are plenty of other activities to explore in the area. Access to many nature walking trails. The Union City Dam, less than 1.5 miles down the road, provides walking, biking, scenic driving, and picnic opportunities. Kayaks/canoes can be used to float the creek when dry or paddle up and down the reservoir lake when flooded. Centrally located between the 2 small towns of Union City and Waterford with gas stations, grocery stores, great local dinning options, and more. About a half an hour drive to Erie and Presque Isle State Park.

Exploring Limit's Wilderness Retreat is a private primitive park for primative camping and private events.

This retreat is located in the middle of an industrial area of Youngstown. As you go up the drive you'll find that the city slips away as you suddenly find yourself in a different peaceful world. Overgrown brush and woods completely surround the property. You'll find a hilly field scattered with a few trees. There is a small shallow creek running along one side of the perimeter.

\*\*\*no utilities\*\*\*

This private location is surrounded by an overgrown brush perimeter. Expect wildlife as there are several active deer trails. There are absolutely no utilities on the property so please be prepared. This includes no water, no where to charge phones, etc. You are more than welcome to bring generators, solar powered devices, etc. You are able to drive your vehicle right up to most camp-able areas when there is no soft ground or risk of heaby rain.

Restroom is a port-a-potty.

This is located in the industrial part of Youngstown. It is recommended to come prepared to stay on site for the weekend however there are amenities located within few minutes drive. The property is located approximately 5 minutes from Youngstown State University.



Exploring Limits Wilderness Retreat

Extends through out the camping season. It includes holiday celebrations, pancake breakfasts, contests, various entertainment, etc. Non-denominational church service is scheduled for Sunday mornings. Dress is casual.

Oil Creek Family Campground

## Overview

Half of Forest County, where Tionesta Lake is located, is preserved as public lands. The region is known as one of Pennsylvania's best big game regions and is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife.

Campers come to the Outflow Recreation Area Campground to enjoy the forested area along Tionesta Creek. The area is ideal for fishing, hunting as well as scenic hiking.

Tionesta is a culturally rich region with a long history. The Seneca Indian tribe named this area "where the water separates the land." Nearly a century ago, narrow gauge railways dotted the surrounding countryside, hauling out virgin timber from the hillsides.

## Recreation

In-season hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and water skiing, are all available from Tionesta.

Visitors interested in wildlife viewing are likely to spot white-tailed deer, porcupine, wild turkey, osprey and opossum.

## Facilities

Each campsite has picnic table and fire ring and water available, dump station located nearby, flush toilets and showers.

## Natural Features

Tionesta Lake winds its way through the rugged hills of northwestern Pennsylvania. Surrounding public areas include the Allegheny National Forest, Cooks Forest State Park, Cornplanter and Clear Creek State Forests, the state fish hatchery and state game lands.

## Nearby Attractions

Tionesta Creek Road, which winds through the Tionesta Creek valley upstream of the dam, is an excellent scenic drive with spectacular views.

The nearby Allegheny National Forest also makes a great day trip.
