Good Family-oriented Campground

This campground is a good campground to go to if doing all the things is what you’re after. There is so much to do. A splash pad, a lake with rentals, several playgrounds, hiking nearby, disc golf, and lots of activity. The campsites themselves however are fairly close together and open with little privacy. We were looking for a little more privacy and relaxation, so we didn’t use many of those amenities. We lucked out with a lot that was slightly more secluded on the end of a road, but paid for it with a very sloped lot that made sitting at the picnic table or camp chairs a bit of a struggle. Also just for anyone planning a trip, make sure you have a long hose for water hookup. Water pumps were spaced pretty far and we needed at least a 100 ft hose to reach. I don’t want to give a bad review, this is a great campground for more of that resort-style feel where kids and adults alike can make new camp friends, but it just wasn’t what we were looking for on this trip!

Home away from home

Having spent most of my childhood here camping at this park i was delighted to bring my family back to where I grew up. I love that they have added some new features such as the wonderful water park as well as a very well laid out and up kept disc golf course. The large lake is great for a day of kayaking and fishing with supplies readily available for rent at the boat dock store. If you are looking for some hiking there is a hiking trail that will take you all around the parameter of the large 144 acre park with plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as small trails easily marked near the campground. The campground offers Amenities for all camping styles from multiple primitive site locations to RV sites with water and electric hookups and blacktop pads to level your camper on and even an overflow area. Pavilions are public use and can be booked for large groups or parties and are located through out the entire park and campground. There are two playgrounds located within close proximity to most camping sites , these have been pretty worn down over the years and could use some TLC but still heavily occupied by children each weekend who don’t seem to mind. There are two moderate size bath houses within the campground spaced out so that they are accessible no matter which site you stay on by a short walk. The park throughout the year has activities and events that are fun for the whole family, my favorites being the Halloween fest in October and an Native American Pow wow. The campground is dog friendly which is great so that your whole family and fur babies can join in the fun. Lastly, if you have forgotten some of the basics when packing or just want some gifts the little camp store will get you by. Since Covid it has modified hours and limited number of guests in the store at a time but it offers a quick one stop shop for things like bags of ice, fire wood, books, matches etc. while you are down there stop above the camp store to the snack bar and get yourself a treat, my family definitely recommends the burger and an icecream storm.

Great family campground

I've camped at Muddy Run throughout my entire life and this is our go-to for a fun, relaxing family weekend.  Large, comfortable, fairly level sites offer a great opportunity to enjoy this beautiful park & lake (fishing, boating, hiking, disc golf, playgrounds, and even a great observatory for star-gazing).  My favorite evening activities (besides enjoying a campfire) are dusk deer-watching!  There are hundreds of deer in this protected park.  Campers are friendly and people respect quiet hours, etc.  A terrific campground and park!

Okay campground

This place was to crowded. Campsites are way to close to each other. No privacy

Family trip with 2 young children

Great spot for family camping. My wife and I took our 4 year old son and 6 year old daughter to Muddy Run in late May. Perfect for a 1-2 day trip where you do not feel like leaving the campground. We found that there is plenty to do on the grounds for everyone. Cheap boat rentals, disc golf and soccer golf courses, snack bar with ice cream and to top off the whole thing they even have a observatory on site where you can star gaze. The observatory is open to public once a month, we recommend you plan your trip around this. We watched a movie indoors and then went outside for a family friendly lecture/learning session where we were able to look through the giant telescope. The bathrooms were very clean and the staff was friendly and laid back. Campsites are close together which we did not mind because we were gone most of the day. We will certainly be back. Bonus- check out Pinnacle Overlook if you are close to this area!!

Not great

Cons: Bring 50 ft of hose for water hook up and an extension cord with a converter. The water hook ups are randomly placed, ours was 2 sites away. The lake area is COVERED in goose poop. Sites in the 20’s are tiny and hanging off a cliff.

Pros: Shaded, hiking, nice camp store, nice snack bar

hometown campground

Well I live very close to this one but its a frequent stop on our journeys camped here since I was about 3 years old. Nice lake to boat on, great wildlife experiences, yummy icecream snackbar, and friendly staff who create weekly/monthly activities for kids and families. Nestled in Amish territory Also known as lancaster county.
