Gravel roads wind through Artillery Ridge Campground in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where the edge of the property meets the actual battlefield. The campground sits on ground that served as a Union artillery staging area, and Stangler Farm, which functioned as a field hospital during the battle, connects directly to the property behind some sites. The Gettysburg National Military Park visitor center is roughly half a mile up the road. History is not a backdrop here; it is the immediate surroundings.
Sites vary considerably in character. Pull-throughs accommodate rigs up to 60 feet, with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer available at premium sites. Most of the tent section is open, with limited shade, as Nancy W. notes: "most of the tent section is pretty open with a few trees scattered about." Some wooded sections provide more coverage. Sites near the playground and fishing pond draw more foot traffic, so campers who prefer less activity around their site should request something farther from those features. WiFi is available but reviews flag it as unreliable when the campground fills up, particularly in sections farther from the main facilities. AT&T cell coverage can be spotty at certain sites, though generally functional elsewhere on the grounds.
The campground has a catch-and-release fishing pond, a heated swimming pool, free mini golf, basketball and volleyball courts, a game room, and a camp store stocked with supplies and souvenirs. A 24-hour firewood vending machine handles that particular need without a trip to the office. The grounds also house the National Riding Stables, which offers guided battlefield tours on horseback, and there are dedicated horse stalls, a riding arena, and a wash rack for guests who bring their own horses. MJ B. notes that "quiet hours are observed," which matters when the campground reaches capacity during peak summer weekends.
Downtown Gettysburg is roughly a mile and a half away, making resupply runs or dinner straightforward without a long drive. Campers exploring campgrounds near Gettysburg will find several options in the area, including Round Top Campground to the south and Drummer Boy Camping Resort to the northeast. Artillery Ridge accepts reservations, allows pets, and offers contactless check-in. Campers who want to spend several days walking the battlefield and exploring the town without moving their rig will find this a practical base for doing exactly that.
