A Gem of a State Park on Puget Sound

This was our first time at Penrose Point State Park. We are so fortunate to have so many State parks along the beaches of the Sound. Penrose Point is located across Carr Inlet from Gig Harbor and Fox Island. There are trails and beaches to explore. Lovely large campsites. No hookups available but…

Nice Location

A bit of a tight squeeze to drive the trailer but the location was nice. Our spot was very uneven but livable. Showers are 25¢ a minute so be prepared. 15 minute walk to a great view of Puget Sound. We would visit again.

Great for a quick overnight, not a place to escape

This is a beautiful spot! I was recently needing a place to camp outside of Olympia on a roadtrip. It’s about 10 minutes from I-5 so perfect for a one night stop, not sure if I’d want to stay there for more than that. The campsite had very little privacy and unfortunately everyone was woken up by a…

One of my favorite family campgrounds!

Sites are roomy. Lots of walking and biking trails. Fishing and swimming areas. Concessions and rentals at the beach. Great staff too.

Super basic as far as bathrooms and water but absolutely gorgeous surroundings. Try and get a spot next to the creek! My husband and are from Florida so we were in awe camping in the redwoods!

Nice park, a ways to lake

We liked our spot but it was a haul to lake. We SUP so had to drive each time. Beach is SMALL but lake is awesome. Most picnic spots are in trees.

Small, well cared for campground

Only con is road noise from Hwy7. Main through fare to Mt Rainier south entrance and services. Sites may be too close together if park was full. We were one a few campers! We tent camped and had view of Lake Alder. Nice campground host. We'll cared for, clean, organized sites. No sewer or…

Good view

It’s a nice little place, down on the hood canal, very cozy. We stayed down at a cabin and it was pretty empty, which was nice. The cabin was a bit older, but it has a charm to it, everyone had service there too. I’d recommend bringing a small boat out if you can, sunset on the hood canal was…

Great camping experience!

Very clean and the price was good. Beautiful views, trails to the lake. Large playground. Camp host was very nice as were other campers. Would definitely camp here again.

Camped here for 3 nights - it's not a bad campground, but it's just average. Also kind of depends on who's camping around you.

There's a bunch of sites and they're decently spaced out. Privacy is alright, if you can tuck your tent back then you can probably stay out of sight of other…

Part of the “camping sites” are just a parking lot with the hang out spots being grass on the outside. There definitely are some cool spots but way too expensive for what it is. The lakes really pretty though! We had something chomping in the woods very loudly by our site so we headed in early lol.…

Where's the water?

Alder lake is the lake that you will be staying by when camping at Sunshine resort. The water is a beautiful blue and it is freezing it comes straight off mt. Rainier. But if you are thinking of camping here during the summer forget it.It only accomadates maybe 6 spots at most and the water in the…

Tall old growth forest. The camp spots are all over a hill and valley. Nice water spots and hiking.

Nice amenities/ lack of privacy

The showers/ bathrooms are clean and nice. You need tokens to take showers which you have to buy from the office. The campsites lack the privacy I look for when camping. I felt on top of my neighbors and everyone faces one another. It could be because it was Friday, it was very busy with tons of…
