Fishing and hiking opportunities draw campers to this Bureau of Land Management dispersed camping area along a gravel road that leads to Hog Lake. The campground spreads across open terrain with scattered sites, some positioned close to the access road while others offer more privacy tucked among small hills and pine trees. Kayln H. notes "a lot of dispersed sites, some close to the road, a few very private."
Most sites sit in open areas with limited shade, though campers who arrive early can secure spots with tree cover near the lake end of the road. The area maintains basic amenities including portable toilets, fire rings, and a dumpster. Cell service varies by location, with AT&T coverage reported as strong in upper sites but weaker in lower areas. Coyotes call during nighttime hours, and wildlife sightings include deer and various bird species.
The lake supports fishing and provides access for small watercraft, though the water contains significant vegetation that makes swimming less appealing. A 1.3-mile loop trail leads to waterfall views, connecting to the broader trail system in the Fishtrap Lake BLM Recreation Area. Train tracks run parallel to the highway, creating occasional noise that diminishes with distance from the entrance.
Access requires navigating a bumpy gravel road that can challenge low-clearance vehicles and may create dust during dry periods. Ron R. describes it as having "very little traffic people seem to care about the area cuz it's really clean." Weekend crowds can fill preferred spots by evening, while weekdays remain quieter. The area serves campers seeking free overnight stops with lake access and hiking opportunities in eastern Washington's open country.
