6/21 We had mostly solitude and beauty.

We drove over mid week, we planned to find a 1st come 1st served. This fit the bill perfectly. This area is so scenic, we were really impressed. We took a site with river view. The sites are all spacious. Our nearest neighbors were 50 yards away, we never heard them. There were barely any campers. There are a ton of trails in the area. The scenery is amazing with lots of river and mountain views. We will return in mid July with another visit.

Secluded accesible spot

Our kids loved the creek access. We felt very secluded at camp 7. Tall trees surround the area and the restrooms were decent

Gorgeous river camping

We came in early Friday morning to a handful of sites to pick from and we got a beautiful secluded spot right on the river. We were able to set our hammock up just at the edge of the water. The fire pit was in a great spot that made having a fire feel extra safe. And the spot we put our tent down was pretty flat overall! Breathtaking views of the snow capped mountains while the sun sets was extra special. Clear above the site and the star gazing was incredible.

Nice but pricey

We stayed in upper Johnny creek campground as lower creek was already full. We have a 34 ft trailer to the tongue plus a huge truck. There were plenty of site options we could fit in thankfully. The location was peaceful and near lots of hiking. We took our bikes and explored campgrounds nearby as well. The only complaint is the price. It’s confusing as many other reviewers have said. Basically if you have a truck and trailer you have to pay for double vehicle occupancy which is $18x2 = $36. This seems like a bit much considering there are no hookups or sewer. The camp host came by our site and told us he had bad news.. we owed more money. He had bad news for many around us.. I’m sure it is frustrating to have his job when so many are confused by the fee signage.

Refreshing!

We stayed at the Lower Johnny Creek Campground. It was absolutely beautiful! Shaded with trees and right next to the water. The campsites were spacious and had a picnic table. The bathrooms were not too bad either. Although, when you first drive into the campground, it’s confusing understanding the pricing stated on the board. We were not the only ones confused, other campers were too. The ranger was a little rude when we told him we were confused.

Dry camping at its finest

This site is very covered with trees and bushes. It stayed shaded during the hot days. We saw a bear near our site. The only downside was the water that the site provided was a rust color. Make sure to bring your own drinking water.

Great campground along Icicle Creek

Typical Forest Service campground. Pit toilets, potable water, no electricity, hookups or dump station. The potable water spigot was push button and took forever to put out 5 gallons. We ended up using our MSR filtration system down at the creek. This campground has great privacy with lots of big trees. Kid friendly with lots of access to the creek. If you're in a site right along the creek you'll likely have other campers waking through the back of your site to access the creek. The downside here were the bugs. All kinds of flying insects... flies, mosquitoes, and bees. Close to all kinds of hiking, rock climbing and Leavenworth.

The nature is so beautifully there!

That place is perfect to see the stars even Milky Way! The campsite is closer to the river! I stayed at Lower Johnny Creek campground and it is accessible for everyone. I highly recommended go to that campground!

Small paradise

First visit to Washington and I went camping in my hammock. Perfect cold weather. Unfortunate that the wood was too dry for any fire. Next time!

Trees!

Upper Johnny Creek isn’t by the water in most spots. There are many mature trees and the site was well maintained. We went in August and there were a lot of flies and wasps

My Favorite place

The sites at Lower Johnny Creek aren’t too close together. Short hike to the Icicle River if it’s not at the back of your campsite. We saw deer close to this site. Not good for campers longer than 24ft. This campground is for dry-camping

Great area

Let me tell you, this area was so packed! It is an incredibly beautiful part of the state but wow the secret is out for sure! We drove around for quite a while and we finally right before dark found 1 campsight open. I mean we drove through about 5 campgrounds and got the very last open spot. Beautiful though!

Wooded campsite along the river

Beautiful location not too far outside of town, several sites were available when we arrived, unlike the first two campgrounds we checked closer to town. Our campsite was away from the road along the river. It had a fire pit, picnic table and a few spots to put up our tent. Nice trees between camp sites so you don't feel like your neighbor is right there. Would definitely camp here again. Fantastic location near Leavenworth with a gorgeous view the whole way there.

Beautiful!!

I was very lucky to find a campsite for the night. I had to get there early enough to get the site. The river was just below my site. It was beautiful!!

Wonderful!

If you're lucky or go during the off season you'll get a creek spot on the lower Johnny Creek campground (versus the upper one down the road). The lower spots might be a few dollars more but well worth the more spacious and beautiful setting. Pit toilets, picnic tables, fire pits with grill top and plenty of hammock trees.

Johnny Creek

Campground is well managed, and is very quiet. Lots of tall trees to tie a tarp or hammock to. Sufficient space for 4-person tent or bigger on gravel pad. Have been to this area many times but first time staying in this particular campground. I would stay again and recommend to anyone.
