Utah is primarily known for two things: its world-class skiing and winding slot canyons. But the Beehive State has much more to offer the outdoor enthusiast. It's home to five national parks and eight national monuments. And that's just the beginning. There is no shortage of exotic camping in Utah.


For desert dwellers, Monument Valley never disappoints. It’s the kind of place that leaves a person searching for meaning. When the sun dips below the monuments and the sky radiates with color, it’s easy to see why the Navajo people revere the land. Media buffs will also recognize the familiar landmarks from film and TV. Those visiting Bears Ears can see Monument Valley in the distance from campsites like Muley Point.


Campers who visit Goblin Valley get a unique experience. An amphitheater of bizarrely-shaped hoodoos greets visitors. Even though there are hoodoos all over Utah, none compare to the “goblins” in this state park. They make an excellent backdrop for photos, adventure, games, and soul-searching.


A worthy Utah destination is Zion National Park, growing more popular by the year. The etched canyon walls make a lasting impression, as they jut thousands of feet up from the earth. The sense of perspective visitors experience keeps them coming back. The Watchman campground is a popular choice for campers. It offers accessibility to trails, the Virgin River, a shuttle bus, and the adjacent town. 


Many will also make a trip to nearby Bryce Canyon National Park, to see the infamous spires. Staying at the North campground is a great way to see the best parts of the park.


It doesn’t take a road trip to go camping in Utah. The state capital, Salt Lake City, butts up against the Wasatch Mountains. Fifteen minutes up one of the canyons is all it takes to trade city noise for alpine meadows and lakes. In the summer, Albion Basin blooms with color. Red Pine Lake is a secluded campsite with two lakes and frequent wildlife sightings.


For a different kind of mountain experience, the Uinta Mountains aren’t much farther. They’re the only mountain range in the contiguous US that runs east-west. Still part of the Rockies, they’re Utah’s highest range, with King’s Peak topping out at 13,528 feet. Most of the camping is dispersed, but Mirror Lake is a great campground right off the main scenic highway.

South Forty RV Park

Campground. Located in Clear Creek Canyon and very easily accessed from Exit 17 on I-70. A small creek runs through the campground, there are no fish. This campground is operated under permit by the nearby Fremont Indian State Park. There are trails for hiking and access to ATV trails. Common vegetation in the area includes cottonwood, pinion, juniper and Ponderosa pine trees. This campground is open to ATV use. On the northwest corner of the campground is an ATV trail that will take you around the hill to access the Pauite ATV 01 trail. This trail leaves directly from the campground to the Main Paiute ATV trail in Dry Canyon, then south to Big Johns Flat and ultimately to Circleville. Big Johns Flat and Circleville are only accessible from this area from late July to the first of October due to snow drifts in the upper elevations. Another trail goes north to the Pahvant Range and Fillmore.

Castle Rock Campground

## Overview

Located within the majestic Tushar Mountain Range, Tushar Lakeside Campground is nestled in a forest of aspen and mixed conifer. This is a popular destination for large youth groups. The lake and small meadow offer ample recreation opportunities to visitors.

This campground is managed by Beaver County, Utah. To check site availability and make reservations, visitors should visit Beaver County’s facility rental website at https://secure.rec1.com/UT/beaver-county-ut/catalog.

Recreation opportunities include fishing, hiking, canoeing, sand volleyball and wildlife viewing.

## Facilities

Facilities include three large group sites and several individual sites equipped with tables and fire pits. Water and flush toilets are available inside the campground.

## Natural Features

Situated at 8,560 feet, Tushar Lakeside Campground offers visitors a chance to escape the heat of the summer and enjoy various outdoor experiences. 

## Nearby Attractions

Skyline National Recreation Trail for hiking is a short drive away along with the Piute ATV Trail. There is no ATV access from the campground; riders must trailer to the trailhead.

## Overview

LeBaron Campground is located in the Fishlake National Forest at an elevation of 9,900 feet. This beautiful high mountain retreat in Utah offers excellent fishing in LeBaron Lake and outstanding scenery.

## Recreation

Anglers will enjoy fishing for brook and rainbow trout in LeBaron Lake from the shore or small non-motorized boat. The LeBaron ATV Trail is just west of LeBaron Campground on Forest Road #147 and is a jumping off point to numerous loop trails and ATV Forest Roads, including the Piute ATV trail.

## Facilities

The campground has 11 single units and one group unit. All sites are back-in and will accommodate trailers from 12 to 45 feet long. Each campsite has a table and campfire ring. One vault toilet serves the campground. Drinking water is not available. There is a camping limit of 14 consecutive days.   
  
A designated ATV parking area is located to the west side of the campground to access available ATV trails.   
  
No hook-ups or dump station are available. The nearest dump station is located in Beaver, Utah. 

## Natural Features

The campground is surrounded by a mix of aspen and conifers. The trees provide a range of shade depending on campsite locations with a majority of the sites well-shaded.   
  
The Fishlake National Forest offers spectacular vistas and opportunities to view wildlife in their natural habitat. Elk, deer, black bear, moose, cougar and mountain goats are some of the large animals that call the forest home.
