Moab's RV parks sit at an elevation of 4,000 feet, producing summer temperatures up to 110°F and winter lows frequently below freezing. The area experiences monsoon season from July through September, creating flash flood risks on unpaved sites. Most RV parks in Moab remain busy March through October, with limited availability during popular events.
What to do
Bike rack storage: Seven Mile RV Park offers locations for storing bike equipment between adventures. "Seven Mile boasts HUGE sites with plenty of room to relax under the blanket of Utah stars," notes one camper, adding that the park "is the thrill seekers dream as it is at the base of Gemini Bridges and close to countless other off-road trails."
Pool access after hiking: Sun Outdoors North Moab provides a swimming pool to cool off after desert adventures. "The bathrooms, pool and showers were not clean. However, we were able to drive into town and get a campsite at the last minute for a good price, which we wouldn't have been able to do in Arches or Canyonlands," explains a visitor who appreciated the park's proximity despite its limitations.
Proximity to national parks: Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway positions campers close to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. "We camped in one of the small RV spots. It was nice that we were the only ones on the north side of the campground. Very quiet and peaceful compared to the summer months," reports a winter visitor who notes that some bathrooms close for seasonal renovations.
Tennis court access: Village Camp Moab provides active recreation options beyond standard camping. "This place is beautiful!! Can't beat the backdrop. Gorgeous red rocks as far as the eye can see. The spaces are pretty close together, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Very upscale campground with incredible landscaping and the pool is so nice!"
What campers like
Price points below average: Dowd Flats RV Park offers lower nightly rates than most Moab RV parks. "I really enjoyed my stay here. The owner was so helpful and let me park very early in the day. The site is little more than a gravel lot outside a hotel. But, it has laundry services, 2 showers, solid wifi, and full hook ups, for cheaper than any other location in town," reports one visitor.
Clean shower facilities: Moab Rim RV Campark maintains well-kept bathroom areas. "Restrooms are clean. They have a well stocked camp store," notes one camper, while another points out "The Restrooms were Super clean and the hot water seemed endless in the shower. Guys get there early my hubby said the wait in the men's room for anything was horrible."
Laundry facilities: Many Moab RV parks offer coin-operated laundry. "We've stayed at 3 of the 4 sun outdoors in Moab now. We drive a class c and do not tow a car. The Moab transit is convenient and user friendly. We love the arches gateway for its more spacious sites and amenities. And like Moab downtown for its ease of walking around but it's a tight fit and smaller. Pool here was great. Nice laundry, great bike wash, loved the playground, nice staff."
Reliable hookups in winter: Spanish Trails RV Park maintains water access during freezing conditions. "The sites are all gravel and the rv sites have a patch of grass next to the site and a picnic table. The roads have plenty of space for big rigs. The pool is nice with little sprays of water in a few places."
What you should know
Unlevel sites: Many Moab RV sites require significant leveling. "Most of the sites are on a hill so getting level or off the hitch was very challenging and we had to buy more blocks conveniently located at store on site," reports a Spanish Trails RV Park visitor.
Ant issues in summer: Insect problems increase during hot months. "I tried to tent camp here late one night in Aug. 2020. It was dark when I arrived. I picked a random tent site on the after-hours registration board, deposited my envelope in the box, and drove to the site. My red tail lights illuminated an ant hole with black ants crawling around."
Highway noise: Parks along Highway 191 experience traffic sounds. "Moab Rim RV Campark is a smaller RV/Tent campground with full hook-ups (RV) available. It is located right off the main highway. The sites are pretty close together and there isn't a whole lot of privacy to be had. We had a site facing the street and it can get noisy with all the UTV's driving on the street late at night."
Limited overflow options: Seven Mile RV Park accommodates last-minute arrivals with tiered pricing. "The main RV part is $90 nite for elect hookup but no water or sewer. RV dump onsite though. Another dry camp RV area is $35 nite and a third RV area is $25 nite, seems diff is due to proximity to the hwy noise."
Tips for camping with families
Playground availability: Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway offers designated children's areas. "We loved this campground so much! It was clean! Bathrooms and showers were the best I've ever used at a campground! Nice playground and splash pad for the kids! We were at a tent sight which was close to the playground and bathrooms!"
Onsite general store: Many Moab RV parks maintain small supply shops. "OK Campground served our needs for this trip. Lots of amenities. Clean. Great location. Camping spots are very small. Shortage of ground areas. Mostly gravel and concrete."
Protected tent sites: Sun Outdoors North Moab offers tent sites with overhead protection. "Each tent site had a charcoal grill and weather canopy. It was nice. Bathrooms were air conditioned and had a nice shower. Only downside was it rained a lot and we had a bit of a stream under our tent so we had to move it to where the car parks instead of under the weather canopy during the rain storm."
Family cabins: Several parks offer cabin accommodations as alternatives to RV camping near Moab. "There are cabins and tent sites (I recommend a shaded/covered site as it gets hot!) There is a lovely pool, clean bathrooms and showers and a little store. When we checked in they gave us delicious fresh baked cookies! Awesome location between downtown Moab and Arches."
Tips from RVers
Slide-out clearance: Site spacing affects slide-out deployment. "It is a pretty nice campground with all the amenities you would want. Unfortunately, it looks like they could use some additional cleaning staff to keep the showers and restrooms clean."
RV length restrictions: Not all sites accommodate longer rigs. "We have a 22' TT but there were larger 32' 5th wheels and some large Class A's. Sites aren't wide but you'll be too busy adventuring to hang at the RV."
After-hours check-in: Ok RV Park offers late-arrival accommodations. "We got into Moab really late and they had all of our after hours stuff in the mail box. Sights were all pull through and very wide and it's full hook ups."
Site selection strategies: Position affects experience. "We were early enough on a Sunday to secure a shelter. We also waited until evening to erect the tent due to a fine dusty sand that permeates everything…and to attempt to keep things cooler. Each site has an elevated charcoal grill and a stunted picnic table."
