BLM Middle Fork Shafer Canyon Dispersed

Sadly, this campsite has gone downhill. Over the past couple of years, it's been overrun, and the impact on the land has been detrimental. Folks are creating campsites wherever they please without regard to the fragile desert environment. Areas that once had Juniper trees and crypto crust have been crushed by cars, killing the trees and crust. Most recently, especially during peak season, there have been parties that go until 6 am. It's been really sad for our family to watch this campsite transform due to misuse. If you do go, please consider how you can impact the land the least to help keep its integrity and beauty for many years to come.

This was honestly one of the coolest camping spots I’ve ever stayed at! We got there at night and had no idea what the view even looked like, so waking up to this massive canyon right outside the tent was crazy.

It’s totally dispersed, so no bathrooms or anything. The road to get here is super bumpy, so you definitely want a good 4WD. Other than that, 10/10. Perfect if you want something quiet, remote, and soooo beautiful!

The view from our site was unreal. I think this might be my best campsite ever. Would return. Went on a Sunday afternoon and snagged a brilliant spot for a night.

My favorite place I have ever camped. AMAZING VIEW. The best in Utah. The layout of this area is amazing and unique.

We had the place to ourselves aside from some guy who was looking for his friends and ended up car camping. Super private and insanely quiet and so much to explore. Crazy amount of fire ants so be aware of where you are setting up.

There are some mid spots right at the beginning that are absolutely doable with any 2WD, however the best lookout spots are further up where you MUST HAVE AWD and HIGH CLEARANCE. The road is terrible but was it was absolutely worth it.

It did rain but only for a bit as it is monsoon season. Lots of bats and lizards!

This is probably the best campsite I’ve ever stayed at. I really don’t think you can beat it in Moab and I’ve stayed a few different places around Canyonlands.

I was able to pull my Jayco Popup with the Baja Offroad package to a site right up on the rim with my Bronco. Couple spots youve just got to pick a decent line and you’ll be good. I saw a Corolla back there with me one night so it’s very doable just go slow.

There is tons of spots to setup camp so just park and scout a few out you like. 2 of the 5 nights I stayed I was the only one here. Pretty wild. The stars are unbelievable! AT&T text and calls were mostly reliable. Internet was off and on. Going from 30mbps download down to nothing randomly but mostly worked okay at best. Upload is all but non existent.

All in all just go check it out even if you don’t camp here. This view is unreal and doesn’t even seem real especially at sunset.

This spot is a top tier location, close to Moab and canyon lands. The road requires 4x4 to access most spots. The perfect location for canyon lands and biking in Moab or dead horse state park. Woke up to breathtaking canyon views and all spots are very spread out and easy to find with clear fire pits.

A little bit of a rough drive in, AWD/4WD definitely needed. Visited in early March and weather was perfect. Plenty of sites right on the edge of the canyon with fire rings and some trees/bushes for privacy. No amenities so be sure you pack out whatever you pack in and bring wag bags. Absolutely stunning views, but it did get quite windy at night.

This was a great site. The view over Canyonlands was amazing. Had a severe thunderstorm/hail move in while staying. The rainwater runoff is something to consider during the rainy season. Be sure to pace your tent in an area. It susceptible to collecting water.

Road in was probably a little beyond my level of comfort but totally worth it! Would for sure recommend a truck or at least a decent clearance and 4 wheel drive.

It’s going down as one of the best campsites I’ve stayed it. The views are impeccable and there are plenty of spots to camp. Any stock 4x4 vehicle will make it just fine, I would be a little concerned about AWD. There was some trash left behind so please pick up after yourself. With this spot getting more popular I foresee that becoming a larger issue 😕. There were multiple other campers when I visited, but the sites are separate enough and they were all polite enough I could never hear them. Would highly recommend this spot if your vehicle is capable

my friends and i stayed for 2 nights in may. the canyons and surrounding scenery are breathtaking! super close to arches national park and moab. it was gorgeous and the stars were amazing! the road is ROUGH at spots but we managed to do it in a 2WD volkswagen jetta. there was one point where 2 of us had to get out and push the car out of a sandy spot. but if you go slowly, its doable! definitely worth it. highly recommend!

We saw a review that this was the best view they had camping…couldn’t agree more! The views were incredible, campsite was quiet and loved every day/ night we had here! Ride in was rough and we made it with our Ram 1500 and Boondock series Tab 320. It is 1.1 miles BEFORE Canyonland National Park sign or between mile marker 3 & 4. A little tough to sign and totally worth it.

the road in was hilariously hard to navigate in a subaru crosstrek but we did it! we heard many other cars and trucks scrape so you just have to be so so careful. it was so peaceful right at the edge of the canyon but lots of bugs. none were biting but they were just a little annoying. you can walk right to the edge and it’s a steep drop so probably not a great place for little kids or pets. perfect for a night out where we felt like we were basically in the park!

This was an amazing camping spot! The road here is bumpy and very rocky there are several opportunities to stay to the left of the trail and avoid the rocky rough patches. A stock 4x4 vehicle should have no issues

This spot offers multiple campsites right on the edge with incredible views

I highly recommend this location if staying near canyonlands. We did encounter leftover trash from previous guest including toilet paper so please keep this area clean as there were multiple animal tracks and it is clear that animals are close by

Absolutely amazing spot overlooking Canyonlands. Would recommend a truck. Not much else to say other than the spot is worth it.

Epic stay with crazy views. We drove right up next to the canyon edge with Jeep Gladiator 4x4 & a Mammoth Overland ELE 4x4 trailer. Three days but wish we could stay longer. Awesome stay near MOAB!

Spent 3 nights here (Sun, Mon, Tues). Each night there were probably 4sites in-use. Views are stunning. Unfortunately, my last night was marred by a group of 4 college-aged dudes who rolled in at 10:30pm, set up camp right next to us, and were still playing music at 2am. 

If you are tent camping, be aware that the surface is basically rock with maybe a few inches of sand in places. Can be a little sketchy if it’s windy.

This road was wild! Meant for like sxs’s and stuff. I drive regular 1500 Silverado for reference. The road starts out uneven and sandy but has several awful rocky spots that will wreck your vehicle. There’s alternate ways around the rocky spots and I made it just fine but wouldn’t attempt this road If it’s getting dark. Have good tires as well. Do NOT bring a trailer. That being said you can camp quite literally feet away from rim of the canyon which is incredible! And because of the remoteness, not many people. Remote, No cell service, make sure you fill up on gas before because there is nothing the entire length of the road and canyonlands park has nothing as well. But probably the coolest place you’ll ever camp.

We drove in right around sunset and I would highly recommend coming before then. The road in is very rocky in sections and unless you have 4x4 and/or high clearance I wouldn’t recommend it. On certain sections, our wheel got stuck below a rock.

Once you get to the spot, the views are unbelievable. Hardly any noise or trash.

Spending the night on the rim of canyonlands national park— Definitely one of the most magical experiences of my life setting our tents up during sunset and waking up during sunrise overlooking the vast canyon!

Stayed one night in early Oct 24 before making my way into Canyonlands NP on a Sunday night. Absolutely stunning campground. Probably one of the most gorgeous sites I've stayed at. It wasn't too hard to get into or anything on the road and seemed to have tons of sites. 

The big BUT is that there was a lot of toiletry waste around the area tho and when it became nighttime tons of people started coming in and that place echos. Please leave no trace, it's such a gorgeous place.

First time camping here! Rolled up during the day and it was quiet with breath taking views of the canyon. Set up camp and once night fall came so did all the off roaders (who seemed young) rolling up to our campsite trying to find a place to camp. This went on until almost 12am. This must be a really popular and well visited disperse camping. Great place to camp if you don’t mind people camping on top of you.

Just here for a night but one of my favorite spots yet! Seemed a little crowded (might have been a big group) but it wasn’t an issue. The road is a little rough (but fun). Had no issues in an Outback Wilderness.

You should have high clearance 4x4 though I saw a Subaru (don't recommend). The road in is rutted in spots, sandy in spots and rocky in spots. If you can get past all that, you are in for a treat. Most spots have incredible views.

Seeing the reviews I figured this spot would be packed on a holiday weekend. (Labor Day) had the entire place to myself. Countless camp sites directly on the edge.

4x4 needed to get through some thick sand spots but an easy trail nonetheless.

Buddy of mine told me about this spot, was excited to check it out. The road going in has no signs, its sandy & rough. There's a fun way & a bypass lol. We hooked a right after it Y's, this opens up to more spots but the "road" becomes more rocky, we went pretty far to the right, you def need a high clearance vehicle, we did everything in 2wd in my 4runner, but you should probably scope it out before venturing in. We got a massive spot right in the middle, there were ground tents setup below us, but there was enough privacy. Tons of people were at this spot. Try to get there before 6, we got there right around 5pm and got our spot. It had a fire ring, plenty of bushes, but the view though, CRAZY NEAT!!! Pro tip, maybe bring ear plugs, there wasn't any rain or wind in the forecast, but the wind was nuts, you could hear it  howling around the canyon and than smacking the side of your tent as it came around. Sunrise was epic!

This was the craziest camp spot. The road down was definitely rough, my hyundai tuscan did okay but we couldn’t keep going because I got too nervous as it got really rocky. I recommend high clearance, but you can find a spot without it. It was absolutely beautiful, super windy, we did run into a rattle snake. We walked through the brushes and found the view to the canyon which was a sight to see. Very empty, felt like we were the only people around for miles.

This spot has incredible views and makes every bit of the trek out there, worth it. I took my Subaru Forester out there without any issue. I was there on a thursday night and there was only one other campsite taken (from what I could tell)
