Valley of the Gods Dispersed Camping

Many great spots along the road to camp! Super views! The road from the east entrance is in good shape! Our Tundra pulled our 24ft travel trailer in here without a problem!

The road isn’t the best w an rv but doable. Absolutely gorgeous out here. No fires. Quite a few campers. Had to go in a ways to get a spot. Better than any park I’d have to pay for

Easy access for a good 4X4 and beautiful scenery choices throughout

Top spot. We were completely alone with our camper van at our spot, surrounded by mountains in the distance and prairie. The area is large and offers numerous spots along the road; we really enjoyed the night. We didn't have an internet connection with T-Online. The access is via a gravel road and is easily manageable even with a 2WD vehicle up to the first spots. Only the first few meters require a bit of courage ;)

We drove all the way from the west entrance to a spot about 4 miles before the east entrance exit. Mostly good gravel, some tougher sections but our Jeep Grand Cherokee with an A-frame trailer did fine when taken slowly (about an hour driving). The views are gorgeous, night sky is perfect.

Such a beautiful quiet place to stay. Lots of pullouts and all with stunning views! Roads are quite good. We brought our Leisure Travel Unity RV. Did great…just take it slow…and of course, if there’s any rain or wet dirt…don’t go!

We had a great night in August, we got there around 7PM to avoid the heat of the day. Lots of spots and saw very few people, with only a couple groups driving by. The evening was pleasant and the temps got into the mid 50’s. Once the sun set a few bats came out for about 45 minutes then disappeared. Once the moon set that night, the stars were amazing on a beautiful clear desert night.

Perfect place to stay! Pit toilets close to the entrance. Good Verizon signal. I'm about 1.6 miles in.

Another good stay here. Road is a bit rough coming in at either entrance--just take it slow. At the moment, there's porto-potties near each entry. Views are great all around. Most sites are out in the open and are not private, but just a small handful are near some of the buttes and fallen rock that can offer some privacy. Surprisingly decent cell service here.

Be prepared for no water unless there has been recent rains, and even then there likely won't be any. 

It can get windy, so be ready for that, and you'll need to bring your own firewood as well.  It's beautiful but there aren't any amenities beyond (maybe) a fire pit. 

I'd argue there are better spots on Cedar Mesa itself, but the Valley of the Gods is a beautiful alternative to the more famous Monument Valley. 

Both Natural Bridges and Hovenweap are worth the short (an hour at most) drives from camp, and both have developed campgrounds for those looking for toilets or other aspects of civilization.

So beautiful. Plenty of dispersed sites. Even on a Friday at 5pm! Sacred. Revenant. Be respectful of this beautiful land!

Nice secluded place. Was very quiet with no one around. Went in July, only complaint is it was hot with almost no shade.

Stayed one night and saw amazing stars in the sky.

Awesome views

We entered Valley of the Gods from the west side, at the bottom of the Moki Dugway. We passed Lee's Ranch, went another mile or so and found a great flat area on the left hand side of the road, with an awesome view of Balanced Rock. We actually drove the entire road the next day and thanked our lucky stars that we parked our trailer where we did. Trying to pull an RV all the way through is definitely not advised.

Even tho we got caught in some crazy storms and broken glasses sent us home early we had such a good time exploring and will absolutely go back!!

A lot of level camping spots the first 5 miles from the Hwy 163 entrance. Great views, very quiet. Only downside was gnats were terrible during my stay!

Amazing canyon road with many camping spurs on left and right. It can get really windy, pelting you with fine red sand & rocks, but stunning and worth it. No Verizon service, No campfires “allowed”.

BLM land. Plenty of open space. Gravel road with potholes. Difficult entry off the main highway immediately down a steep but short grade and across a creek bottom which may or may not be full of water. The creek bottom is hard pan so not as scary as it sounds unless of course there's rushing water or a flash flood which is rare. But once through that first obstacle, the road is not too bad at all. The views here are incredible. Not crowded at all. Just pick a spot with the view you like and make it home.

There are a lot of campsites just off of the road. The views are excellent and it is very quiet.

Beautiful and well spaced out without many people around

There is a decent amount of vehicles driving through during the day simply because it’s a scenic drive. Breathtaking views, would recommend 4x4. The road can get a bit rough. Plenty of campsites to pick from but I would imagine in the warm season it fills up quick!

Spent a night here on route to Baja. Wonderful sunset and sunrise. Many great level spots. Wash near the entrance might be an issue of there is rain.

Really perfect sites everywhere, car camp or tent its all good! Great sunsets and sunrises.  Can imaging wind could be an issue depending on site.

Amazing. Everyone is spread out! We had no problem finding a great site mid day. Beautiful place from which to explore Valley of the gods, the Goosenecks and the Moki Dugway. 20 ft pick up wit 28 ft of trailer and we had no trouble. It was our first experience with true dispersed camping. We took it very easy and entered from the east entrance as others suggested. Drive the loop and I’m not sure how some of the trailers got to the places we saw them set up! Braver than us😳. A bit of Verizon service with a cell booster.

Awesome views. Plenty of spaces and very spread out. I would absolutely come back again. View is incredible and the stars at night are even cooler!

Words can’t describe the beauty of this place, mid May was ideal . A bit windy this time of year but only in the mid to late afternoon. Out of a hundred dispersed camp sites there wasn’t one that was left trashed or dirty. Amazingly clean and easy to get to.. if there is one camping bucket list that needs a box it’s this one. A convince store just 8 miles up the road in Mexican Hat for basic supplies and a SteakHouse as well.

Downright majestic area, words cannot describe how great this spot is, just go here.

The road is very rigid but no big bumps so just take it slow and any vehicle can make it. sites start popping up ~1 mile in so don’t be fooled by the small, uneven turnouts (im not sure what they’re even for) you’ll see while driving in.

stayed here in april and the weather was perfect, 70 and sunny with a cool breeze, minimal bugs too. even had a smidge of cell service but not much.

remember it’s primitive so bring water and a trowel + tp ;)
