Within Dixie National Forest, Mammoth Dispersed operates as a free US Forest Service camping area that accommodates both RVs and tents along Mammoth Creek. The area features gravel pads and vault toilets despite its dispersed designation, with 4-5 established sites near the creek and additional tent-only spots at the road's end.
Campers access the area via approximately 10 miles of gravel road, though route choice matters significantly. Amanda L. recommends "coming in the back way where Aspen Meadow turns into Mammoth creek" for RVs, noting challenges with the steep northern approach. The creek runs fast and loud, providing a constant water soundtrack that some find soothing while others prefer sites farther from the flow.
OHV enthusiasts find extensive trail networks throughout the surrounding forest, making this a popular base for ATV and UTV exploration. The area also provides access to nearby attractions including Mammoth Cave and serves as a convenient stop for those traveling to Bryce Canyon. Fire restrictions apply seasonally, and rangers actively patrol during busy periods.
Weekend crowds, particularly during holidays, can overwhelm the limited sites. Ryan F. observed that "the campground feels a little small for the amount of people who frequent it, especially on busy weekends," with high-speed ATV traffic and noise becoming problematic. Weekday visits offer better site availability and quieter conditions.
For campers seeking developed amenities, Duck Creek provides full hookups about 8 miles south.
