Quiet and Quaint!

It was essentially a bunch of RVs and cars parked in a field, so minimal privacy, but feels very safe! Cows come out at night and wander about, so look out for cow patties!

Solid Option to Avoid Offroading

As described, it's a big field with a bunch of RVs. That being said, if you don't have an off-road capable vehicle (like me) - it's a solid option and there are some pretty mountain views. You can buy the permit online. No one checked the permit for the three days I was there.

Plenty of space

I spent a night there in April 2024 during a couple days of rain. It was pretty muddy, but that was to be expected. There is space for many campers and it's an easy, paved road up to the park. Cellular was pretty strong as well.

Open field with several fire rings, fair bit of road noise

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. We stayed here for 3 days in early June over the weekend. The dispersed camping area pretty much fills up overnight, with 7 or 8 of us staying longer. There were a few day users as well. The entire area was clean and free of trash. The sites are a little wonky, but we were able to get level. While the CG is far enough from US 6 to not be bothered with road noise, Sheep Creek Rd sees a lot of traffic and hence a fair bit of road noise. AT&T coverage was quite good, with 3 bars of 5G and speeds up to 16 MB/s.

Easy, beautiful, and free!

Our Memorial Day campsite reservation was cancelled last minute due to flooding and road damage. Rather than turn home, we tried Sheep Creek disbursed site. It was beautiful, scenic, and free. Kids loved it and so did the adults. Not a lot of tree cover but it was mild temps and fine!

Scenic but crowded

Basically a big open field on the side of a hill. Good views, close to the highway, and not many bugs. There were at least 20 vehicles on the Friday night I was there, but still enough room for more.

Lots of noise: generator running endlessly, music playing, kids yelling, etc. It was kind of like a busy campground with no campground amenities or designated spots.

A nice big meadow with no designated sites. Lots of places to pick from but only a couple trees providing shade. Access road is well maintained and low clearance friendly

Great spot for an overnight while traveling

Sheep Creek is a big open field 1 mile off the highway. Great spot to overnight while traveling. No marked sites - just stake your claim to a patch of ground. Accessible location for vehicles of all kinds… a Tesla just pulled in to catch some zzzzzzz’s!

Easy to get to

These spots are easy to find and pretty wide open - our 31ft RV had no issue getting here and settled in. There is a large area with room for multiple groups. Some horse/hiking trails nearby. Beautiful views.

Easy, pretty, safe

Such a relief to find this lovely, easy spot while traveling, just off the road between Provo and Moab. Arrived late at night, plenty of space to find a level spot. Scattering of other RV’s. Existing fire pits still available. Lovely views to wake up to

Really beautiful area! Camping on a grass and dirt field. Definitely bumpy getting in and settled. Arrived in time to see a pretty sunset. The train is a bit noisy, but not bad inside the trailer. We even have cell service!!

Perfect for a night on the road

This place is very easy to get to and a great overnight stop on long road trips. If you need a place to crash, this will do you well. Be ready to share your campsite with cattle.

Keep Going Up the Road

The initial campground was definitely an RV only type of place as there was no coverage to take care of business.

But if you keep going up the road there are more than a few turnouts worth staying at for those of us with tents.

We found a decently sized one roughly 4 and a half miles up the road. Beautiful view over the valley, large enough area for multiple cars. Spotty 1 to 2 bar LTE coverage.

Gorgeous view

There is the dispersed camping right when you turn in, however if you keep going up the mountain there is a super small turn off to the right then brings you up a little hill and there’s a few more sites I would have missed if I want so nosey. The view is amazing but the sites up here have so much trash. It’s not hard to clean up after yourself!

Great dispersed camping option less than a mile from the highway

Large open field with plenty of room for distance between parties. When we were there on a Sunday night in mid September, there were probably six other RVs spread far apart. This is a better spot for self contained RVs or vans as there are no facilities and no real privacy for tent camping. Perfect for a one night (free!) stay on the way down to Arches and Canyonlands. Lovely views and sunsets, and our dogs enjoyed running around after being cooped up all day on the drive down. Easy gravel road and incline even for a decent sized RV.

Easy to find!

We stayed here on our drive from California to Colorado over the weekend! It was about 6:30pm when we arrived and there was more then enough space for us. Spot were level in places for our rooftop tent. It was above the city and out of the smoke too!

The only downside was there were hunters there with ATVs who woke up at 5am and let them run for 45 minutes before leaving.

Fantastic!

I camped here in my sedan by myself and the campsite is easy to reach, has a great view and feels very peaceful and safe. You get a beautiful sunset and its basically a big field where you can park and set up camp anywhere. Only one drawback - there's no place to go to the bathroom at, so get ready to walk a while to avoid stares. P.S. Tmobile works too. Very happy with this campsite, one of the nicest I've stayed at!

Not many trees but great views

We were able to find a nice pullout spot off of a side road for our pop up camper. There are a handful of used spots with fire rings already made. There weren’t many trees for shade and wind block, but the views are beautiful. There are a lot of dirt bike trails. A great little place best for short one or two night trips.

Great Free Dispersed Camping

This is a great spot just a about 2 miles off the main highway. It’s paved until you get to the campground turn off which is a good dirt road. Wide open space with tons of options to tent or RV. There’s a huge sign that says Sheep Creek Campground so you can’t miss it. Drove here with my front wheel drive sedan and tent camped. Train goes by occasionally but not loud enough to disturb. Access to hiking trails all around because it’s national forest land. You can stay 14 days. No permit required. No amenities.
