Stunning!

Beautiful campground right in the nature. Showers were newly renovated and very clean and spacious, free! The dishwashing station was also very welcome.

Very nice campground

Basin Campground is very nice, however, it is incredibly difficult to tell what each site is like on ReserveAmerica.com. We were originally in site 4, which was so small our tent would not fit. We moved to site A, which is a first come, first served site and it was much better.

Kodachrome is a beautiful park. Very close to Bryce Canyon National Park, which quite honestly, is much more beautiful. Lots of hiking and even horseback riding available.

Restrooms are really, really nice. I'm used to pit toilets when I go camping. These had full bathrooms with really nice showers. It rained a lot while we were there and the bathrooms got very wet and muddy and were not cleaned regularly.

It is a very quiet park. Generators are only allowed from 12-4pm, which is great for tent campers, because we don't want to hear that crap.

Wished we had stayed longer!

The Basin Campground was a wonderful in so many ways. The sites  are clean and well maintained. Our site had a great view of the colored rock hills. Kodachrome wasn't as crowded as Zion so much more enjoyable. The bathrooms...the showers were spa-like!  There were several enjoyable trails nearby and I would highly recommend the nearby drive to Grosvenor Arch. There is a place to do laundry and the visitor's center has wi-fi, ice cream, snacks, and souvenirs. I'm surprised but glad it isn't as crowded as Zion.

Beautiful Park, Amazing Showers

I’m going to start with the showers because WOW. How is it that the nicest shower I’ve ever taken is in a state park? It’s also available for use by non-guests for a measly $1.

The park as a whole is really cool, there’s lots to do once you enter the park. There are several hiking trails, a nice and clean laundromat, horseback riding, and cabins. You’re surrounded by the sandstone formations and mountains so you’re a bit protected from the wind and weather.

On the way out there is a dump station with two dump holes and both potable and flush water.

Cost was $25/night for dry camping and $35 for power and water. Most of the sites are pull through or the “bump out” style, and the roads are paved.  Sites are nice and clean and really well maintained.

No cell service in the park.

Wonderful Camping!

Kodachrome State Park is just lovely. I camped in the Basin campground. My site was a backin. Full hookups and plenty of space. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. My site was a corner site so I believe it was a bit roomy. The sites are spaced so there is lots of privacy. The best part were the showers! I didn’t want to get out. Flushing toilets and plenty of hot water in the sinks. There isn’t any cell or internet service at the campsite, but the visitors center has it. Several short hikes right there. Bruce NP is about 30 minutes away. I hope to go back!

Bathhouse with shower over a mile away so you had to unhook and drive. Not good. No internet.Wifi at park office. Great views and scenery. Mtn biking, hiking and horseback rides offered. Nicest camp showers

Stayed at Kodachrome for the first time in July - this is a gem of a campground! They have flush toilets and actual rain shower showers! There is a visitors center and a frisbee golf course at the entrance. We tent camped in the Basin campground and loved the unique rock structure. Sites were well spaced and had a decent amount of room. Lots to do in the area.

Surpisingly good

Stopped here for a night and a bit of hiking. Found the camp to be well kept up and beautiful. The facilities were great, the showers were surprisingly fancy. The camp was quiet and sites were well spaced. Some site are in the foliage with more shade, and unfortunately more bugs (but not too many). Some sites have better views than others but most looked good. Some short hikes are just outside of the campground if you need to stretch your legs once the desert air starts to cool down.

Popular & Clean Campground, Breathtakingly Beautiful. Must Stay!

Stayed at the Kodachrome State Park campground during May of 2020 and have not forgotten the experience sense. This is the quintessential Utah campground - clean, spacious, absolutely beautiful surroundings, and ridiculously close to the incredible hiking Utah has to offer. You can literally wake up, put on your shoes, and go on a hike in this campground.

Super nice and clean bathrooms and showers, which is hard to come by when car camping for multiple weeks at a time. Coin laundry also accessible. I think we paid $35 a night, which is WELL worth it for the price, considering the awesome amenities. Multiple sites that should be reserved in advance online - this is definitely a campsite that fills up quickly during peak times.

Road super accesible to all vehicles; a ton of RVs and larger vehicle spaces and campgrounds. This campground is very secluded, it’s not close to the main interstate but that is part of its charm. Stars are incredible at night, do yourself a favor and stay up long enough to admire the breathtaking night sky.

Favorite Campground in the US

The only hesistation in giving this review is that it will become too crowded.  Let's start with the mundane.  The bathrooms are gorgeous!  What?  I know, the showers, the toilet stalls, its just a fancy five star hotel experience.

The sites are spacious and not on top of one another.

There is honor system wood shed to buy your own fire wood.

There are plenty of hikes to take from within the campground.

I want to go there monthly!

The Best Utah State Park Campground

Kodachrome Basin was a very nice surprise for our grand camping tour of Utah this Fall. This place is truly a Kodak moment. The rock structures throughout the park are incredible. The campground is about 10 minutes drive to Cannonville the nearest town and about 30 minutes from Tropic Utah. Tropic has a nice coffee shop with free WiFi, a grocery store, cafe, and a new large gas station. The State Park has just about everything you need they have a 24 hour laundry, dump station, water, and wash stations. The bathrooms and showers are the best we have ever seen at a campsite and look like something out of a modern show home. The staff are very friendly and helpful and each site is meticulously cleaned. Each campsite had a fire ring and a picnic table. We stayed in site 12 which had privacy and plenty of space. They have some great hiking paths as well as horse trails. This park sets the standard for State Parks and was the hidden gem from our trip.

Luxurious and isolated haven!

My boyfriend and I ended up camping at Kodachrome after failing to find a campsite at Bryce. A kind ranger suggested we try Kodachrome, describing it as "gorgeous" and  feeling confident that the place would be isolated enough that we'd find an available site there.

He was right! The views were as breathtaking as Bryce itself, minus the crowds! Each campground seemed spacious and private, having some sort of "barrier" between the next, whether brush, or trees.

Each site had clean aluminum-type tables and firepits that looked barely used...but my absolute favorite part were the bathrooms/showers. OMG, are those the cleanest and most beautiful bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. I felt like I was in a spa, and because the campground was so isolated, I felt no rush from other campers (of course i remained mindful of water waste).

I also like the designated dishwashing area, which many campgrounds lack. Best part was waking up to so many hummingbirds chirping around our tent.

Hidden Gem in Utah

This is one of my favorite campground in the entire country.  Whoever designs and maintains it really understands what campers want all in a setting that lets you have classic Utah views while camping.

We were in the basin campground.  The campsites themselves range in size and ours (#23) was roomy but in a part of the camp loop where we were surrounded a bit by the road. There is good spacing between sites and some low trees for shade and a visual break.   If you have big tents, you'll definitely want to scout out the best site.  Some of the outside ones had a short walk-in (30 feet) but almost looked like camping out in the desert.  No-see-ums in July were bad around breakfast and dinner time but went away the rest of the day.  Off-season, we didn't see any.  Temperatures went into the 40s in July which made for very nice sleeping after the heat of the day.

The showers are maybe the most notable difference- neutral woods and rainforest heads create and almost spa-like setting. Considering how many Utah campgrounds have no showers at all, this is a great break if you're on along trip in the area. Outside the bathrooms is a nice dishwashing sink.

The campground is set in a basin, surrounding about 270 degrees by low Utah mountains.  There are a few interesting hikes right in the park and also lots of low clambering on the rocks for kids.  It is remote enough to have great night skies with clear milky-way views.  We used this as base camp for Bryce, which is about 40 minutes drive away.

All I Have to Say is AMAZING

If you haven’t been to Utah this is the campground to go to! It is absolutely gorgeous! The bathrooms and showers are probably the best I’ve seen in a campsite ever, they are spa like to say the least. The showers have rainfall shower heads and separate hand held shower nozzles. The campground itself is the cleanest we have ever been to and the ranger on site is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Now let’s talk about the camp sites. We were at site 5 in the Basin. When we drove in to set up camp it was pitch black, there are no lights so bring plenty. The sites are set pretty far apart to where you have privacy as well. Site 5 has trees for shade but there is still sun. The nights get fairly cold so bring items to keep you warm. There is plenty of wildlife in-the campground, with lots of “good looking” spiders that like to come out at night. Fortunately they are more scared of you so if you leave them alone they usually scurry away pretty fast. There are two things to be aware when camping here: the cicadas and gnats. The gnats are awful, we tried just about everything to keep them away but very little helped. Since we weren’t at the camp ground during the day it wasn’t too bad for us, but if you plan on spending time at the site during the day then do some research on how to keep them away. One more thing to add: groceries. There is no local store so you travel to the next town which is fairly pricey. We did our shopping in Cedar City which is about 2 hours away. Our family loved the campground so hopefully yours will too!

Oasis Group Site

Our group of 15 loved the proximity of the campground to newly remodeled rainfall showers. There are paved sidewalks at the site and it was nice to locate the front doors of our tents along this sidewalk. There were ample picnic tables for our group to sit. There was a large grill and separate fire pit for our use. Firewood is available for $5. New laundry facilities was located a short drive from the campsite. We were able to start our laundry, return to our campsite and return to finish it without any worries ($2.50/load). We chose this campground because of it’s close proximity to Bryce NP and the amenities it offers.

Amazing campground!

I camped at Kodachrome for two nights back in October 2018.

I got to the campground at around 8:30pm and it was honestly pretty late and the park was super dark. I spent a little too much time exploring Bryce Canyon NP but good thing Kodachrome was only a 30-min drive from the park.

Since I was traveling by myself, it really gave me the peace of mind knowing that there was still a ranger on site to check me into my campsite.

The campground is located in the heart of some of the most beautiful rock formations. I’m not super into stargazing but I can imagine stargazer fans would definitely enjoy the dark skies here. There’s not too much shade for the campsite but they are far away enough from the others so you get to enjoy a good level of privacy.

I didn’t use the showers but they looked very nice and modern. On the way to the campground, I also noticed a laundromat on site. There’s no cell service here but I also use AT&T and that might be why.

Firewood is sold on site and there’s also water easily accessible.

I would definitely come back to the campground! 👌🏼

Spacious campsites, clean bathrooms, friendly staff

The campsites are very spacious and have trees between sites to feel more secluded from your neighbors.

The bathrooms are extremely clean and updated. Prolly the nicest shower I have ever been in! They keep it clean daily too.

Firewood for purchase 24/7.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and came and checked on campers and helped with anything they could.

The campground is close to several trails in the park and is also close to horseback riding trails if you’re interested in that!

They also have a washroom with washers and dryers that are only used by paying campers.

Being at a high elevation, it was great at night to have a cool breeze after a long hot day in the desert.

The campground is away from public and really gives you a great camping feeling.

Loved this place!!

Sand, wind, and tent camping

Kodachrome Basin site #12 was supposed to be one of the highlights of our camping road trip. Site #12 is tucked way in the back with your own private little circle and a gorgeous rock formation behind it. You could not get a more private and beautiful campsite. The picnic table and fire pit are tucked behind the trees in the middle of the circle and the tent site is HUGE! We could’ve easily fit another smaller tent next to our 11 foot dome tent. Everything about it looked awesome!

Looks can be deceiving though. The first morning we woke up to the sound of sand “raining” on the rainfly of the tent. Thankfully I had decided to use the rainfly! Not that it mattered much. By the time we left, it had rained enough sand into the tent that I could’ve filled at least a sandwhich baggie.

We camped two nights and upon returning to our tent on the second day, we found our tarp pulled out from under the tent, a broken tent pole section, and a rainfly clip on the ground. Several of the tent stakes had been pulled out. We asked the ranger about it the next day and he told us that every night between about 8-9pm the wind comes up and forms a 35mph cyclone around the curve of the basin wall. Site 12 is at the outside of the cyclone where the wind is highest. Not exactly ideal for a tent camper!

This campsite might be better for someone with a low tent. Our tent is 7ft tall in the middle and tends to catch the wind at lower speeds, much less 35 mph winds. It migh also work for an rv as long as you don’t open any awnings. The rest of the campground appeared to be unscathed so other sites might be a better option also. It really was a great location if it hadn’t been for the wind and sand.

One more item to note: this campground is close enough to Bryce Canyon for a commute there, but at the end of a day in Bryce, it feels like a long drive back. It is a fantastic campground if you are planning a drive on Scenic Highway 12, which is right down the road a bit.

Busy, many amenities

Great place to camp that last night in the desert before returning to civilization. Plenty of reservable sites for whatever style camping you prefer. Full hook ups for RVs, toilets, showers, fire rings, place to do dishes, and firewood for sale at a reasonable price, which can be hard to come by in dry places. Sites are reservable.

Its a bummer that many of the campsites are backed up on each other, and it does fill up, so you will probably have neighbors. Tent sites might be a little quieter.

There was an interstingly shaped hoodoo visible from our site. The stars were indescribable, so many and so clear!

Breathtaking Views from Bryce View

Bryce View is a lovely campsite located in the heart of canyon county and perfect stopover location when accessing Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Large, private sites with limited trees due to desert location. No campfire due to dry conditions this summer. Only pit toilets on premises, but hot showers available within driving distance at the group camping area. Hiking trails on location provide an array of unique canyon formations. Amazing sunsets highlight the colors of the rainbow in the desert. Awaken at dawn to the howling pack of wolves out in the surrounding mountains. What a magnification location! This state park highlights the great aspects of the area, without the crowds of the national parks.

They have hot showers in the middle of nowhere!

I was desperate for a shower so we packed up our camp and found this amazing campground with HOT showers that is in a very remote part of southern Utah in Kodachrome Basin State Park. There are 4 campgrounds in this State Park, we camped at the furthest one called Basin Campground. BEST views! (see my photos.) This was a ultra clean campground! They sweep the ashes from the fire rings between campers. The bathroom facilities were very clean, kind of surprising on a very busy Memorial Day weekend. There is a grill as well as a fire pit with a nice cement pad and picnic table. This is very remote but worth the extra miles to get away from the crowds and see some unrealistic rock features!

No climing in the SP on the features.
