Convenient, free camping spot near Moab and Arches

Quite a few campsite options with lots of wide open space, although this means you can see other sites and have little privacy or coverage from the sun. On a clear night you can see a breathtaking amount of stars. Close to the highway so there's some noise throughout the day, but it does quiet down overnight. Road is a little rocky and bumpy but nothing too crazy, most vehicles should be fine.

BLM Camping ~15 minutes from Arches

Arrived around 530pm to ensure enough daylight to set up camp and select a spot with a fire ring. T-Mobile 3-5 5G Bars at all times. Fellow campers spread out nicely.

Good overnight stay

As is most of this area, full sun exposure, but also means great sunset/sunrise! Good safe spot right off the highway. Made it in my front wheel drive 21’ van. Just go slow. Lots of rocks sticking up and little rivets in the road. I was able to get around them. Other campers spread apart far enough for me

Beautiful and Close to Arches!

It’s right off the interstate, so traffic noise is somewhat loud, but not too bad! Not a lot of privacy but mostly full of people going to Arches. Some AMAZING sunsets and bright stars!

Free option near Moab

This worked as an overnight option, but was probably more work than it was worth. This area does not have typical pull out spots like BLM land, it had a limited number of large group sites where 4-5 campers were all right next to each other. We drove at least 3-4 miles back on a bumpy road for a travel trailer and had to turn around and share a space with another van. Very windy and exposed as well, but beautiful sunset/sunrise! Not mad, just not the most convenient public land option in our opinion.

Great emergency stop

We were not planning on stopping here but out of necessity due to a flat tire we stopped here. We found a spot not too far off main road and had plenty of space. All the site are exposed and it was very windy. The road is very long with many spots along it. Took our mountain bikes down the road and had enjoyable time. Only about 20 minutes from Moab and quiet. Nice distant view of Arches

Very convenient

Got there later in the evening. The road is pretty long so you just have to keep going until you find a spot. Not too bumpy so lower clearance vehicles are just fine.

No trees

The road in is a bit rough: rocky and rutted. Campsites are fully exposed so there is no privacy, but it's great for charging your solar system and viewing stars at night 😉 Campsites have stone fire rings. There are no amenities here. Pack it in, pack it out.

Great spot!

This was a great spot for our first dispersed camping night. We ended up coming back for another night because it was so quiet and safe.

Close to Moab, plenty of space

  • close to highway, quiet at night
  • 15 minute drive to Moab/services
  • less than 10 minutes to Arches/Canyonlands entrances/turnoffs
  • no plant/tree cover for 🚽
  • not many private sites but sites that are large enough for multiple groups

Fairly Rocky

It was fairly rocky getting in. My partner didn’t feel comfortable pulling in to the first campsite and the second campsite was too steep for our hitch/ travel trailer. We’re driving a smaller SUV (Rav4 Prime), but had we been driving a higher clearance vehicle, we definitely would’ve camped here. I think we could’ve made it, but I’ve also gotten us stuck so I don’t have much say in this matter.

Nice area!

We drove in our van to this place, the drive went okay. It was a bit crowded where we landed, we didn’t make it all the way down the road to look for other places because we didn’t think our van could handle this. Nice views!

Beautiful, clean, quiet

Only a few minutes off the highway but quiet without feeling too deserted, watched an amazing sunset and could barely hear the highway traffic. A little noise during the night from other people driving by but not too bad.

Primitive but quiet

The road into our site was pretty bumpy from the excavator truck but we found a decently private spot. Only downside was all the fine sand that was kicked up in the wind. Otherwise, good location, close to arches. Would recommend. Spotty cell service.

Dispersed Sovereign State Lands

Road is known as the So Klondike Bluffs Road. Dispersed camping sites are all along this road first couple miles from hwy 191. Lots of big spots for big rigs or groups. Free dispersed, this is NOT BLM, it is Utah State Lands. 14d limit. Portable toilets are required. No water, no designated sites, no trash. Cell signal is very good. This area has become very popular in recent years. However the State of Utah is proposing this entire block of land as a future State Park..."Utah Raptor State Park".

Great spot close to Arches/Canyonlands

There were other people here, but not a lot and everybody was spread out. Hard to find a decently flat spot to set up. Hammock camping is doable but difficult as there are very few trees/bushes. Overall nice place to camp if you are trying to budget and want to be close to Arches NP. BLM lands so no fee for camping.

Saw tents, hammocks, and some campers/RVs using the spot. Even saw some hot air balloons in the morning!

Pretty much just flat land surrounded by a primitive fence. No porta potty when I was there. It’s far enough away from the highway that cars aren’t bothersome. Sego Canyon petroglyphs are about 15 min away which is nice.
