South Central Texas is a prime area of the state to explore. Known far and wide as the Hill Country, it is so named for its rolling hills and woodlands. Famous for its excellent wineries, historic small towns and natural beauty, the Hill Country also boasts a unique offering for campers known as Enchanted Rock State Park. 


Enchanted Rock is a large pink granite dome that rises 425 feet above the surrounding terrain and is the largest granite monadock in the United States. Indians, Spaniards and early settlers all had stories of magical, spiritual or unexplained happenings around the rock which gave the feature its name. These days, one of the most intriguing sights is at night, after a rain. The wet dome seems to glitter in the moonlight and while regarded as a simple play of light on the granite, the effect adds to both the mystery and enchantment of the area. 


Another intriguing site in the Hill Country is Jacob’s Well, a short 78 miles southeast from Enchanted Rock State Park. Fed by a natural artesian spring, Jacob’s Well consists of a large pool connected to a vast underground cavern system that sprawls more than 4300 feet. The spring is connected to the Trinity Aquifer and emits thousands of gallons of water each day where visitors can enjoy the cool 68 degree water. Welcome to Cinnamon Sky Ranch! Our 90 acre property features 6 primitive campsites which are individually set to view some of the grandest scenery outside of Big Bend National Park. These sites are based at the edge of rugged ledges, with rocky inclines. The morning sun paints the western ridges and the evening sun teases before the darkest skies twinkle with a million stars. Folklore whispers of a Shaman burial site, Alien Portals and whatever else the Dark Skies offer up! Your host is a granddaughter of a Texas Ranger that rode and patrolled the Rio Grande from the early 1900's to the mid century.

All campsites are family friendly and feature a fire pit and picnic table for your use. Our sites are **BYO for both potable water and toilet facilities**. Please make sure you bring enough water for your entire stay and bring a camp toilet or other way to pack out any trash or waste you leave behind. Our sites do have cell reception but do not have wifi so plan ahead!

You will enjoy solitude, rugged ground, animal activity and gentleman's respect towards the land - please plan to pack in, pack out. You are responsible for your needs. There will be two central parking areas from which you can access the campsites. Town, Fuel and Grocery are 9 miles South and easily accessible. The National Park entrance is approx. 10.3 miles South. Quiet hours at the property are from dark to daylight. All guests must be 18 or older, safety is the responsibility of the camper. While you are free to move about; do not enter others campsites uninvited, cell service is limited.

Please do not move or take rocks. Do not climb on rock slides. Be respectful of borders. All flora and fauna in the desert will hurt you, so will most of the bugs and snakes. This is their home. We want your experience to be wild, rugged and safe! Campsite names are listed below.

53420 State Highway 118. The Rustic Camp built by Campers with re-purposed and recycled materials, makes it one of the favorite Primitive Base Camps for Big Bend, Texas. Located in Southern Most Section of Terlingua Ranch, within eyesight of the Mexican Border, National and State Parks. Easy to find, just across from Willow Mountain, one of the most photograph natural features in Big Bend. Traveling highway 118 you will see the Entrance at address 53420, just north 1 mile of the outfitters and gas station. . When you pull in, Host is to the right and Camping is to the left. Just follow the driveway lights on back and pick any spot ya wish. Fiber Wifi up front with a spot to charge your stuff. 53420 State Highway 118 in Terlingua. NO SITE NUMBERS. Choose any site when ya get here. First come first camp. Low cars up front. SUV's and trucks can easily make it to the back, its all up to you, but remember no tow trucks down here. lol. The Out Houses are built by Campers using re-purposed materials and recycled wood. When arriving at night it will be very dark.. very few lights in use, dark sky's are protected in Big Bend.. so it may be hard to find. but we are directly on the highway on the west side of 118. Coyote Crossing is on a small red sign at the entrance. Trash Dumpster up front for your use. No collecting rocks, cactus or wood to burn... NO TRACE, leave it as you find it..

We are only a 30-minute drive to the west entrance of Big Bend National Park. Our campground is 5.5 acres and is located in the North Corazones area of Terlingua Ranch! Our property is loaded with native desert flora, including creosote, a few scattered mesquite trees, and a lone ocotillo. We are nestled in an area with picture-perfect views of Nine Point Mesa, Jack Eden Mesa, the Corazones, and Turtle Mountain, and have one of the best spots for stargazing at night. We’re just 20 minutes from Terlingua Ranch Lodge and Pool and Bad Rabbit Cafe.

Each site comes with a picnic table, fire ring, and a 5-gallon potable water dispenser. We understand the desire for a few creature comforts, so we offer off-grid communal toilets and showers, and free Wi-Fi. These amenities are offered to you for your convenience but don’t forget the simple pleasures of sitting outdoors and listening to Mother Nature around you. We want you to connect with nature! A simpler lifestyle that cuts out the everyday comforts of city life for a more primitive experience.

Living in the desert has brought a lot of peace into our lives. Upon arriving we weren’t sure what to think other than it was absolutely beautiful. As time went by, we found a strong connection to the land, the quietness, and the sound of nature all around. We are overcome with tranquility and a repeated sigh of relief every time we take a drive in any direction. It didn’t take long for us to want to share these experiences with whomever we could connect with.

We may be half an hour away from the local towns and parks, but you get to camp in pure nature. No loud cars zooming by, and The Ranch is not an overpopulated campground. Imagine hiking all day, especially if you’re visiting during a busy season, and all you want to do is get back to the peace and quiet of your camp. Well, we provide just that!

## Overview

Big Bend's vast undeveloped areas provide excellent opportunities for backcountry experiences if you seek solitude, wilderness, and adventure! The backcountry sites listed here are primitive backcountry road campsites and primitive backpacking sites in the Chisos Mountains. All are designated sites located in remote locations. Campers must be self-sufficient. [Backcountry regulations](https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/bc_regulations.htm) are strictly enforced. 

  * These are primitive sites and do not offer water, electricity, toilet access, or any amenities. 
  * Primitive Chisos campsites are **BACKPACK-ONLY campsites** with NO vehicle access. Campsites are from 1-6 miles from the trailhead. Parking for overnight backpackers is located in the large amphitheater lot adjacent to the Chisos Basin Campground.
  * **Most primitive roadside campsites require a high clearance vehicle, and 4-wheel drive is highly encouraged.** Road conditions can change quickly. High clearance vehicles are defined as a SUV or truck with at least 15 inch tire rims AND at least 8 inches of ground clearance from the lowest point of the frame, body, or suspension. 



## Recreation

Splendid Isolation. Big Bend National Park is beloved as one of the few large public land areas in Texas. Major activities include camping, backpacking, hiking, birdwatching, river trips, enjoying the spring bloom, and adventuring along backcountry roads. The spring months of March and April are the busiest, as well as the Thanksgiving and New Year’s holidays, although the park is open and visited year round.

## Facilities

These are primitive campsites, and require extra trip planning. Please take the time to plan and carefully prepare your itinerary. 

  * **Backpacking Campsites:** Primitive designated backpacking campsites located along the extensive [Chisos Mountains Trails system](https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/backpacking_chisos.htm) .
  * **Primitive Roadside Campsites:** Primitive camping with your vehicle in designated campsites along [rugged backcountry dirt roads](https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/roadsidecamps.htm) . 
    * Roadside campsites are intended for high clearance vehicles only. Trailers and passenger vehicles will not be able to access most of these campsites. High clearance vehicles are defined as a SUV or truck, with at least 15 inch tire rims, and at least 8 inches of ground clearance, as measured from the lowest point of the vehicle (frame, suspension, body, differential).
