    forest road 171 disperse camping

    Nice but noisy

    This dispersed camping is not bad but extremely noisy. You are very close to a Pilot truck stop and only about 15 miles from Flagstaff. It’s a pretty large dispersed camping area right off a fire road, in but extremely full for Labor Day weekend. I’d hoped a lot of the campers would be packing up to leave by Tuesday morning, but wasn’t the case at all. Two different sets of campers one on each side of me have multiple dogs barking constantly throughout the day with the campers to the left of me having a lady yelling “shut up” about every five minutes. It seems like both camps have at least two or three dogs. Then Tues morning a constant like of dirt hauler semi-trucks are going up and down the road. This is a great place just right off i40 if you need a pull in nightly overstay but I wouldn’t camp here for more than overnight again. The plus is the weather has been 70’s during the day and 60 degrees at night. Perfect weather when I was just in Texas in 100 degree heat and I’m heading home to LA where they are having close to a 100 degree heatwave which is why I extended my stay for more than one night. I’m pulled way back in the back where I only have one bar of cell service and if you pull all the way to the end you will run out of cell range, but I’m sure it will be less occupied. I have camped from in AZ from Tombstone to Flagstaff yet to find a decent quiet camping spot in Arizona where you are literally by yourself away from everyone.

    Saddle Mountain Lookout

    great views right on the Grand canyon national park

    Great campsite right on the edge of Gran canyon national park with amazing views. And an awesome hike right by it with great views of the cayon. The road was easy to drive on just washboarded. I only saw one other camper out there on Labor Day weekend!

    Horse Heaven we were surrounded by beautiful horses in lush green pastures our dog enjoyed walking around the farm. Visiting the horses that were roaming throughout the pastures we were able to offer them apple slices and enjoy their warm muzzles on the palms of our hands. RV hookups were quiet clean and easy to setup our camping site. Nashwa Farms is open YEAR AROUND to allow their guests to enjoy visiting the Historic Verde Valley

    Sonoran Desert RV Park

    Large Clean campground

    Very large Clean city campground. We paid $30 for electrical hook up. They have water on site and a dump station. You can also pay $40 for full hookups. We had a problem paying online so they came by the next day to handle our payment for us. Train runs at night nearby but you get used to it. We were here the beginning of September for three nights and it was fairly empty. Mid 90s, which seems high for this area, but we have electricity so we were OK. Not sure if it was just this site, but we had quite a large number of bees. Got stung when I was wearing shorts, but when I had pants and a long sleeve on, I wasn’t bothered.

    Navajo National Monument Canyon View Campground

    Beautiful, quiet campground

    We arrived on the Wednesday before Labor Day and were the only ones there. Dry camping but our campsite (#6) was a nice size for our camper van, level with an outstanding view. Access road was pitted and narrow but definitely passable. Oh yea, it’s free.
