Just off the main road into Flagstaff, this KOA sits among pine trees at 7,000 feet elevation, providing direct access to Coconino National Forest hiking trails from the back of the property. The narrow entrance road and internal roads require careful navigation, though reviewers report that even larger RVs manage the turns successfully.
Sites cluster closely together in typical KOA fashion, with minimal privacy between neighbors. Kim G. notes the campground "feels more like a National Forest Service site but with the added perks of electric hook-up and hot showers." Many sites require leveling blocks due to uneven terrain, and some back up to a concrete wall separating the campground from an adjacent trailer park. Road noise from nearby traffic carries through the property, along with frequent dog barking from neighboring sites.
The facility centers around family amenities including a large inflatable jumping pillow, playground, and rental banana bikes that generate excitement among children but also result in occasional crashes. Clean restrooms feature flush toilets and free hot showers, while the laundry facility accepts credit cards at $3 for wash and $2 for dry cycles. WiFi service proves unreliable for work or video calls, though cell service generally functions adequately.
Campers use this location as a launching point for Grand Canyon visits, located one hour north, or for accessing Mount Elden and Fat Man's Loop trails directly from the campground. The facility stays busy during peak seasons with numerous children playing together throughout the grounds. Staff provides trail information and maintains the property well, though some reviewers note inconsistent customer service experiences.
For those exploring the broader Flagstaff area, campgrounds near Flagstaff offer alternatives with different settings and amenities. Reservations ensure site availability during Flagstaff's popular camping months.
