This secluded forest camp offers easy access to two features of high visitor interest. The first is Knoll Lake, a medium-sized body of water tucked away in a picturesque setting. People come here to fish for trout and tour the lake in small boats. The second feature of interest near this campground is the spectacular Mogollon Rim, a two thousand foot escarpment that marks the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. This picturesque plunge from cool highlands to low deserts extends across most of Arizona. The area around Knoll Lake, however, is the home of some of the Rim's most magnificent views. It provides a scenic setting for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding or just sitting back and enjoying the panorama.

Knoll Lake Campground

Aspen Campground is a scenic hideaway for anglers, boaters, families and photographers, located in north central Arizona near Heber and Payson. It sits in a dense pine and aspen area forest near the shore of Woods Canyon Lake at an elevation of 7,000 ft. With spacious campsites, calm and scenic lake waters, a marina, boat ramp and many amenities, Aspen is one of the most popular camping spots in Arizona. Natural Features: The large and rambling campground offers several camping experiences and environments from marshy meadows to a rocky forest. Wildlife viewing includes birds, squirrels, deer and elk. Deer, skunks and bears are common campground visitors. Summer temperatures can be very pleasant because of the elevation. However, the rainy season often brings afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August. Visitors should come prepared for rain and cool nighttime temperatures. Recreation: Popular activities include trout fishing, hiking, boating and photography. Woods Canyon Lake is one of seven lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area, and one of the most visited. Two other lakes are within a short drive. Woods Canyon Lake only allows electric boat motors. An easy hiking trail meanders around the lake, and the campgrounds paved roads make for great bike rides. Aspen Campground at Woods Canyon

## Overview

Spillway Campground is on the shores of popular Woods Canyon Lake near the town of Heber in north central Arizona. Situated in a pine forest with plenty of shade, the campground has individual campsites as well as one group campsite for small gatherings. Given its proximity to the lake, hiking trails and scenic areas, Spillway is a convenient getaway for anglers, boaters, hikers, families and photographers.

## Recreation

Woods Canyon Lake is one of seven lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area, and one of the most visited. Trout fishing (both lake and stream) is a favorite pastime. Woods Canyon Lake only allows electric boat motors. Two other lakes are within a short drive.   
  
The Rim Lakes Vista Trail, less than a mile from the campground, and others in the area lead to spectacular views of the Mogollon Rim. An easy hiking trail meanders around the lake, and the paved roads in the recreation area make for great afternoon bike rides.   
  
Families might also enjoy attending educational programs given by Forest Service rangers on the weekends.

## Facilities

The campground is a relatively small facility with 26 individual campsites and one group site that can accommodate up to 25 people. Tents, trailers and small motorhomes are allowed - please read information on each individual spur size to determine if your RV will fit in the site. The main campground loop road has a fairly tight turning radius hedged by trees so no RV/trailer over 32' is recommended. Each shaded campsite offers a leveled spur, picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill. All campsites, loop road, vault restrooms, and water hydrants are compliant with the Architectural Barriers Act for accessibility. Some sites are directly on the lakeshore with a view of the water. 

Restrooms are provided. Boat rentals and basic camping supplies are available at the Woods Canyon Store, while the nearest showers are at Canyon Point Campground 10 miles away.

## Natural Features

Spillway is located in a thick forest of ponderosa pine, oak and Douglas fir at an elevation of 7,500 ft. The campground is situated on the lakeshore overlooking the calm blue waters of 52-acre Woods Canyon Lake, where visitors may see squirrels, deer, elk and a variety of birds.   
  
Nearby hiking trails offer views of the Mogollon Rim, a 200-mile long cliff in northern Arizona that ranges between 5,000 and 7,000 feet in elevation and serves as the geographical dividing line between the cool high country above and the hot, dry desert below.   
Summer temperatures can be very pleasant because of the elevation. However, the rainy season often brings afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August. Visitors should come prepared for rain and cool nighttime temperatures.

Gas, phone and groceries are available 10 miles east at Forest Lakes. The nearest full service community is Payson, Arizona, 35 miles west on Highway 260.   
  
Visitors can explore endless vistas and take part in many outdoor activities in the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, which encompasses 2 million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona and New Mexico.

Spillway (AZ)

Located in the high desert Arizona between Holbrook and Heber. I have four serene off grid campsites all with tent platforms, fire pits, picnic tables, with free firewood plus an outhouse and a common area with horse shoes and corn hole game. They are all drive thru. From tents to large RV with tows. UFO sightings and research has been done here. I myself have seen UFOs. When the skies are clear and you can see the Milky Way.

For cell service, Verizon works great but all other providers are generally unreliable



Lancelot desert camping

Located just 2 miles south of Payson, AZ just off highway 87.

Large area for big rigs to pull in and turn around.

This is a horse facility but you do not have to have horses to stay here.

Campers with horses can reserve a 15' x 32' partially covered stall for $15 per night.

Pets are welcome but must be contained or on a leash at all times.

Facility is in a very quiet neighborhood and is a 5 minute walk to several different surround trails.



Round Valley Remuda

## Overview

The Elks Group Campground sits among a mix of ponderosa pines and juniper at an elevation of 6,500 feet offering a cool respite from the summer heat of the valley below. This campground facility was designed and constructed by the Winslow Elks Lodge and generously donated to the Mogollon Rim Ranger District. The campground is designed to meet the needs of large groups and can accommodate 100 people, offering picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. There are vault toilets. For every 25 people after the first 50, the group will need to provide additional port-a-pots.

## Recreation

Many visitors spend time relaxing and exploring the area. The nearby C.C. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake offers opportunities for water based recreation, while the Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and historic Cabin Loop Trail System offers opportunities for hikers, bicyclist, and equestrian users. There are also several Fire Lookout Towers in the area.

## Facilities

The group campground is in a primitive setting on 6 acres. The site has a swing set, horseshoe pit, poles for a volleyball net, flag pole, pavillion, grills, picnic tables, a large fire ring, a 500 gallon water buffalo, trash collection and vault toilets. It is important to know that for every 25 people after the first 50, the group will need to provide additional port-a-pots. The site can accomodate up to 100 people and 50 vehicles.

## Natural Features

The campground is in a transition zone where ponderosa pines fade into stands of pinyon and juniper trees. The nearby Mogollon Rim is one of the most striking geologic features in the state. This steep escarpment, measured in thousands of feet, stretches from New Mexico diagonally across two thirds of Arizona and offers sweeping views of the landscape.

The community of Happy Jack, Arizona offers two convenience stores, two restaurants, and a gas station.

Elks Group Campground

Blue Ridge Reservoir

Mogollon Campground, although not directly in the Woods Canyon Recreation area, sits just outside and is only two miles from the lake. For those who like spectacular views, this location is great for Mogollon Rim Camping. Recreation Fishing and boating are available at Woods Canyon Lake which is approximately three miles from the campground on Road 105. Facilities Mogollon Campground has 26 sites (of which sites 14 through 26 are available for advanced reservation). All sites are pull-outs and approximately 40 feet. Sites can accommodate tents, pop-up campers, trailers, and motorhomes. There are two loops which have 13 sites per loop. Each campsite offers a campfire ring, grill and picnic table. Additional amenities include accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash service. A camp host is available at the site. Natural Features Mogollon Campground is surrounded by ponderosa pines. The road to Mogollon is a sandy road off of Road 300. The campground itself is also sandy and gravel. Nearby Attractions Some groceries are available at the Marina Store at Woods Canyon Lake which is approximately three miles from the campground. The store also offers boat and kayak rentals. The majority of the climbing is characterized by steep highly pocketed limestone/sandstone mix cliffs. Route length varies from short “bouldery” twenty foot routes to long “pumpy” routes around seventy feet. On vertical walls, the rock can be bubbly with edges and blocks. If you want to find fun and safe sport climbing on the Coconino National Forest, this is your place. Sport climbing, focused on movement and safety offers the opportunity for large dynamic moves on well protected routes. Fixed anchoring systems here keep climbers safe while minimizing impact to the rock compared to traditional anchoring systems such as pitons and trees. Jacks Canyon boasts 300 routes of what some consider being some of the best sport climbing in the country. Jacks Canyon is a great collaboration between the National Forest and the rapidly growing user group of rock climbers. The roll-over photos here are from the top of the rim overlooking climbing areas and at the bottom at the creek. **Camping** : The camping is free and unimproved at the canyon rim, where a 10 minute trail gets you to the routes. Please camp at obvious sites. **Weather** : The Weather is great year round with spring and fall offering the best conditions. In the summer you’ll be chasing the shade with temperatures rising to the 90’s F. During the winter, temperatures can get down to freezing and can be snowy, but the sun warms the rock. Chase the sun and you’ll be climbing in tee-shirt and shorts. Jack's Canyon Camping and Climbing Area

Chevelon Crossing is a scenic and historic canyon area. Built originally by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, the campground is situated along Chevelon Creek. NO trash collection available. This is a pack-it-in / Pack-it-out area. Take your trash with you when you leave.

Blue Ridge Campground is located about 5 miles north of Blue Ridge Reservoir, as the crow flies. It is about 10 miles by road. This narrow, winding body of water looks more like a canyon-bound river than a lake. Nestled between forested canyon walls it provides picturesque water recreation in a secluded, wooded setting. If fishing is your cup of tea, you can catch rainbow, brown or brook trout here.

There's plenty to do for everyone, including sightseeing, wildlife watching, hiking, and mountain biking available here in these canyon-carved uplands. If just talking about all this activity makes you want to kick back and relax with nothing more strenuous to do than watch the squirrels bury pine seeds, then one of these shady, forested areas is probably just the place for you.

The Rock Crossing Campground sits in a beautiful setting surrounded by ponderosa pine and oak at an elevation of 7,316'. The cool summer climate and countless recreational opportunities makes this a popular location. 

Wildlife is abundant in the area and includes elk, mule deer, black bear, bald eagles, and osprey.

Many visitors spend time relaxing and exploring the area. The nearby C.C. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake offer opportunities for water based recreation, while the Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and the historic Cabin Loop Trail System, offer opportunities for hikers, bicyclist, and equestrian users. ## Facilities

The campground is comprised of 31 individual family sites and two double sites. Each family site can accommodate up to eight people while double sites can accommodate up to 16 people. The facility provides picnic tables, campfire rings, cooking grills, tent pads, bear food storage lockers, drinking water, vault toilets, trash collection, and campground hosts. There are no utility hookups or showers.

Campsites vary in size and can accommodate a wide range of equipment with a maximum RV or trailer length of 32'.

For groups larger than 10 people and up to 50 people, the nearby Moqui Group Campground can be reserved.
