Beach access on the coast: Winter Island Park provides oceanfront camping with beach activities. "We camped in tents and loved this campground. The restrooms were very clean and being cleaned constantly. The beach was beautiful and enjoyed walking on the larger rocks. Also there's a beautiful lighthouse and some history plaques there," writes Heather P. The park includes "great view for sunrise" and is conveniently located for Salem exploration.

Wooded privacy at state parks: Wompatuck State Park offers secluded camping near Billerica. "We had a lot of fun camping at Wompatuck. Definitely bring bikes to do some exploring. We found a large pond and an underground bunker to venture into. The campsite was had trees around it so you felt secluded and there was plenty of wood to collect for a fire," notes Jess G. The park features "numerous hidden trails known mostly to locals, making it ideal for low-traffic hiking, biking, and mushroom hunting."

Off-season availability considerations: Winter Island Park offers different experiences depending on timing. "We spent a weekend here on a tent site close to the beach. There was no parking at our site, but the parking lot was only 25 yards away so it was not an issue. Being so close to the beach had its pros and cons. The pros were the great view, easy put in for our kayaks, and convenience for fishing and trail walking. The cons were the noise during the day from the beachgoers," explains Cynthia K. The park also has seasonal wildlife challenges as "the visits from racoons and skunks at night (scavenging the food left by the beachgoers)" can disrupt camping.
Alcohol regulations vary by campground: State parks like Wompatuck maintain strict policies. "Lastly, be aware that alcohol and outside firewood are prohibited at this campsite," notes Paulina B. Entertainment options for rainy days: Normandy Farms Campground offers indoor activities. "This campground is so well run I felt like I was in Disneyland's Frontier Land. They offer anything you could want. Spotlessly clean and wonderful employees. the pool is also great," explains Jean T. The facility includes a "20,000 square-foot activities building (with adult only lounge, pool table, arcade, games, wide-screen televisions, sauna, Jacuzzi)."

"The HanscomField Fam Camp is a wooded recreational camp for military families and retirees, as well as for RV camping for active duty military on temporary orders. The campground provides pet-friendly camping near Billerica with "several clean modern bath houses, with hot showers and flush toilets."
Hookup positioning challenges: Salisbury Beach State Reservation requires planning for connections. "The electrical post and water hookup were placed way behind our site and we could not reach even with our 40' electrical cord. Park staff told us we could back onto the grass in order to reach the electric and since the ground was hard packed sand we were able to do that," shares Nancy W. RVers should note "many of the sites are short but since you can park on the grass that turns out not to be a problem."
