Calef Lake Camping Area

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Quiet hours hold at Calef Lake Camping Area, and multiple reviewers note that the enforced stillness at night sets it apart from busier private campgrounds. Sites are dispersed along a one-lane gravel road, with some positioned on a small creek and others closer to the swimming pond. Site sizes vary noticeably, so it's worth confirming dimensions at check-in, as at least one party arrived to find their assigned site too small for their tent.

The campground has a small lake with swimming access available around the clock, plus a designated dog pond that draws pet owners back repeatedly. Fishing draws visitors as well, and a playground is on-site for younger campers. Full hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp electric service make it workable for RVs, and WiFi is available. A significant share of sites are occupied by seasonal campers, which shapes the overall atmosphere toward an established, residential feel rather than a transient one.

Rhonda B. sums up one of the campground's more reliable qualities: "Quiet hours were actually quiet." Campers staying in sites farther from the bathhouse should note the walk can be long, and mosquitoes are a consistent presence. For those exploring campgrounds near Auburn, this is one of the smaller private options in the area. The season runs May through October, and reservations are available, which is worth arranging ahead of summer weekends given the limited number of transient sites.

Weekend Getaway

We had such a fun time and our dog loves it! The only bad part is we were very far from the bathrooms and tons of mosquitoes. We definitely will be coming back in the near future!

Pretty good campground

Pros: some big sites, family activities, playground, swimming pond that you can canoe in that looked fairly clean. Campsite was on a little creek. Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet nights, easy check-in. Cons: Bathhouse was closed so we had to use Porta potties. They originally booked us on a site so small, our tent wouldn’t even fit so we weren’t going to be able to have a fire because our tent was so close to it. Went to the desk and they switched us to a different site a couple sites down that was much larger. We will return for sure, my husband was on call & had to leave quite a bit, I didn’t go explore the campground while he was at work but next summer we will.

Small but quaint campground

Small campground but we had fun here. Small lake to swim in and a small playground. They had a beach dance which was really fun. We met some really nice people. The staff were really nice, very courteous and helpful. Quiet hours were actually quiet! Which doesn't happen everywhere.
