    Hummingbird Campground

    May 2026

    Very close to and on the same road as the entrance to the monument valley drive thru tour. If you are doing the tour the hours were 8am-4:30pm and if you’re going for a photo at John ford point those hours were 10am- to I think 3pm. But I would check before you go. We arrived at 5pm and didn’t get to do the tour until the next day.

    We really enjoyed our stay and visit of monument valley. It was very peaceful and calming experience. There are about 8 campsites at hummingbird.

    Our site had a shaded picnic table, fire pit, and they provided a water jug of water.

    There is a shower. The bathrooms are vault bathrooms located outside the fence. I would bring a headlamp or light source to use.

    Overall, highly recommend. We would definitely stay here again. The location is so close to the monument entrance and it has everything you need.

    ** I would not worry about the dogs on the property. I’m always worried because I have a very small dog [4lb yorkie]. But these dogs are very laid back and had no interest in us at all. It was a worry-free experience. I would say even if you have a fear of dogs you won’t mind the ones here.

    **last note for dog owners. If you stop at the visitors center do not let your dog use the dog area. It is covered in burs. I pulled 7 burs out of one paw. I would actually suggest boots in all parts of the southwest AZ,CA,TX between cactus needles, dog tails, and grass burs it’s worth getting boots for your dog.

    Sand Hollow OHV Camp

    Super convenient, really pretty at night

    Im currently tent camping out of my car and managed to make the place work. Sand obviously made it more difficult, but was doable. Accessible by RWD but be careful of patches of deeper sand. If you drive far enough away, highway isnt much of an issue past midnight- plus the moon makes the place look great at night.

    Flat Iron Mesa Road dispersed camping

    Beautiful dispersed camping 30 minutes outside of Moab

    The review by the other gentleman had the wrong location which was actually public utility land. About a mile down the road you'll see a sign that says public land. The road turns into an easily passable dirt road that ascends up into the hills. There's some scrub brush and several areas to turn off with disturbed areas from previous campers.

    The one I'm at tonight overlooks the valley with a beautiful view in all directions and some shade trees around.

    Carmel Campground - Ashley National Forest

    Small Beautiful Campground

    This is a small dry campground at the entrance to the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring and there are also a couple of vault toilets onsite. The creek that runs in front of the cliffs is very soothing.

    Seaman Wash Dispersed

    Great spot,cool overlook

    Fire rings already there, if you travel back near the wash, there is a great overlook. A little rough for our 2wd campervan but it was able to get up there.

    Gold Bar Group Sites

    Nice campsite, but traffic noise

    The campsites themselves were nice- spaced far enough apart to allow for privacy and access to a vault toilet. No water available, so be sure to bring some. Had a few locals driving around selling firewood which was helpful as we hadn’t brought any with us, but this was likely just a chance event.

    River was beautiful! Thankfully the group sites were far enough away from the regular sites that it wasn’t too loud, but had to walk through the group sites to get to the river.

    Biggest drawback was the traffic in the early morning

    Old Ski Lift on Blue Mountain

    Secluded and quiet

    Wanted a quiet place out of the desert for the night and this place was perfect. Large gravel area that was likely a parking lot- we camped just east of this off the road- found a level spot for our tent. There are no amenities so bring water and plan on packing out all garbage/waste.

    Rocky Peak Campground

    Good “Off season”

    I imagine this campground is busy in the colder Mon when the nearby mountains to the east are inaccessible. Here the last week of May and have the place virtually to myself. Large nicely spaced campsites and clean vault toilets. Lots of hiking opportunities. There are also a lot of OHV trails and the area surrounding the campground looks well used at times by those vehicles. That said, very quiet when I have been here (3 nights). Beautiful views to the east of the mountains and the lights of Cedar City do not interfere with great star gazing.
