This is an incredible spot. I almost don't want to review it so it doesnt get more popular. Incredible views of zion and plenty of spots to pitch a tent and relax. Very clean besides the cow poop but it is their home. Porta potties spread out along the property. Don't sleep on this spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Smith Mesa in Utah?

Smith Mesa is located near Zion National Park in Utah. To reach this destination, you'll need to take Smith Mesa Road, which is accessible from nearby highways. The road leads up to an elevated area that provides spectacular views of Zion. While specific driving directions from major cities aren't detailed, the road is navigable for most vehicles. Be prepared for potential rural road conditions that may include dirt or gravel sections. As with many remote camping locations, it's advisable to have detailed maps or GPS coordinates before heading out.

What camping facilities are available at Smith Mesa?

Smith Mesa offers a primitive camping experience with limited facilities. Porta potties are available at intervals throughout the property, providing basic sanitation. The area is dispersed camping with no designated sites, allowing visitors to choose their own spots to pitch tents. There are no hookups, running water, or electricity available. The mesa is shared with cattle, so expect to encounter some cow droppings throughout the area. The trade-off for these rustic conditions is the incredible, unobstructed views of Zion and the surrounding landscape, plus plenty of open space to camp.

When is the best time of year to camp at Smith Mesa, Utah?

Spring and fall are typically the best seasons to camp at Smith Mesa, Utah, when temperatures are moderate and the views of Zion are at their most spectacular. Summer can be quite hot given the mesa's exposed position and limited shade. Winter camping is possible but prepare for colder temperatures at this elevation. The area's open landscape offers excellent stargazing opportunities year-round. Plan your visit according to your temperature preferences and desired activities.
