    Port Crescent State Park Campground

    Great week

    We spent a wonderful week at Port Crescent State Park and absolutely loved our stay. We were fortunate enough to land one of the few full-hookup sites, and we ended up on one of the best sites in the campground, backed up to a beautiful waterway. Only negative was the slope, needed more leveling blocks than we had.

    The wildlife was a constant highlight. We had geese, swans, and all kinds of other birds and wildlife right outside our site. It really added to the experience.

    The entire campground was immaculate. Staff were constantly making rounds, cleaning, and keeping everything looking great. The beach was also within an easy walk from pretty much any site, and it was beautiful. The water and beach were very clean, and the breeze coming off the lake made it easy to spend the entire day there.

    We also enjoyed walking down to the public beach and going a little farther beyond it with our family and dogs. There was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the lake.

    Overall, Port Crescent was one of our favorite stops. Beautiful campground, great beach, excellent staff, and an awesome setting. We would definitely come back.

    Lexington Park Campground

    Quick stop

    We stayed one night as a layover while heading south. Overall, it was a good spot for a quick stop.

    The positives: Easy to get in and out, level campsite, very friendly staff, and just a short walk to the beach.

    Our biggest issue was the setup of the full-hookup sites. The electrical hookup was on the opposite side of the RV, and we weren’t really set up for a long electrical connection or a long sewer hose. We split the difference and had just enough to make it work.

    The full-hookup sites are also pretty tight. Our neighbors were sitting a few feet from our sewer hookup at their campfire, which made things feel a little cramped.

    The beach is close, which is a definite plus, but it’s fairly narrow and doesn’t offer a ton of room to spread out on a busy day.

    Overall, I’d say this is a great spot for a weekend or an overnight stop, especially if you want easy beach access. I probably wouldn’t plan on getting too comfortable here for an extended stay.

    Harrisville State Park Campground

    Beautiful, well maintained with beach access

    Absolutely beautiful campground. Mostly shaded spots with lots of trails, paths and areas to walk. Fantastic for pets. Right on the water so sits a very short walk to the beach if you don’t have a beachfront site.

    Island Lake (MI) — Huron Manistee National Forests

    Very Peaceful, no cellphone signal

    First time staying here. It was quiet and peaceful. There was a larger group by the lake that had a 'really good time' into the night, but zero issues with all the laughter. There were handicapped picnic tables and nice fire rings, but someone in a scooter or wheelchair might have issues with the slopes/dirt. Vaulted facilities were clean but hand sanitizer was empty on both sites. Lake was nice, pretty shallow in the swimming area but the vaulted facility next to it was pretty smelly... even when walking past on the road.

    Monument Campground

    Monument Quiet Campground

    Small and quiet campground with around 20 sites. Most sites are quite private and nice size. Vault toilets were well maintained and very clean. Five minute walk to the visitor center and trails. 242 stairs down to the lake and wanigan. Very historical area for the lumberman.

    Island Lake

    Quiet

    We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon during peak season and pulled right in to a fcfs site. Most sites are on the lake, but it’s down a sizable hill and filled with tree cover. Sites are spacious and spread apart enough for privacy. Hand pump for water and vault toilets are clean.

    Platte River State Forest

    Beautiful Campground.

    Though labeled on the Dyrt map as Platte River "State" Campground this is a federal campground in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and run by National Park Service. It is a beautiful campground with 4 loops and a walk-up camp area. There are handicap and group camp area.

     Abundant large trees offer shady campsites. Sites are large with plenty of separation from you neighbors.  A nice feature in addition to your paved RV space, that I've never seen at another campground- each site has a leveled dirt area for tent set-up. Each site offers a firepit and large metal picnic table. 

    Camp fees are reasonable, even more so if you have a Senior pass, (unfortunately I lost mine), but I still had a site with electric hookup for $31. Generator use is not allowed, but if you feel the need for electricity, a site with electric hookup is only $5.00 more.

    Reservations available from May 1 through October 31st. I lucked out due to a cancellation. 

    There are 6 shower/restroom facilities in the main campground and even 1 serving the walk-In camp area. They are in good shaped and I saw them being cleaned every morning. Another offering in those facilities is a small room with a " camp sink" for washing dishes. Throughout the campground there are plenty of creature-proof trash receptacles, clean water sites and an RV dumpsite.

     I have T-Mobile with the new satellite back up and had good service, but I noticed my hotspot worked better in loop 1 than in loop 2 where I camped the first night.

    There is a Railroad Grade hiking trail that runs on the north end of the campground.

    The Platte River is close and "River Rentals" where they have Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, tubes and an assortment of other inflatables to rent, is less than a half mile away. They also offer a shuttle service for those with their own boats which I took advantage of. They have a store with ample souvenir offerings

    This campground was a great find for me, and you can bet I will return. The campground is open year around.
