Small Inconveniences

This is a nice campground overall, we had an ok visit. We stayed here in November while riding the Shore to Shore trail on horseback. Some of the problems we ran into here is there were no manual pump wells, therefore no water source for us, and our 3 horses, unless we tracked down an electric water pump or generator. Also, the trails in the area were not well marked, and a lot of atv traffic on what are suppose to be horse and footpath only trails. The bathrooms though were excellent, and the sites were great, spaced well.

Frequently Asked Questions

What facilities and amenities are available at Luzerne Trail Camp?

Luzerne Trail Camp offers minimal amenities. The campground lacks manual pump wells, meaning there's no reliable water source for campers or horses unless you can access electric water sources nearby. Come prepared with all the water you'll need for your stay. The campground appears to be designed primarily for overnight stays by trail users rather than as a destination campground with extensive facilities. Bring everything you need for your stay, including water, as amenities are very limited.

Where is Luzerne Trail Camp located and how do I get there?

Luzerne Trail Camp is located along the Shore to Shore trail in Michigan. The campground is accessible for both hikers and horseback riders traveling the trail. While the exact directions aren't detailed, you'll want to locate the Shore to Shore trail route and plan your journey accordingly. As this is primarily a trail camp, it may not have typical road access like standard campgrounds. For precise directions, contact the Michigan DNR or check official Shore to Shore trail maps before your trip.

What hiking trails are accessible from Luzerne Trail Camp?

The Shore to Shore trail is directly accessible from Luzerne Trail Camp. This significant Michigan trail system connects Lake Huron to Lake Michigan, offering long-distance hiking opportunities. The camp serves as a stopover point specifically designed for trail users. While the Shore to Shore trail is the main route, there may be connecting paths or loop options in the vicinity. The trail is suitable for both hiking and horseback riding, making this camp a convenient rest stop for through-hikers and equestrians alike.

Do I need reservations for Luzerne Trail Camp?

Reservations don't appear to be required for Luzerne Trail Camp. The site seems to function as a first-come, first-served trail camp primarily serving through-hikers and horseback riders on the Shore to Shore trail. However, since this is a designated trail camp with potentially limited space, arriving early during peak seasons (especially summer weekends) is recommended. For the most current reservation policies, contact the Michigan DNR or the agency that manages the Shore to Shore trail before your trip.
