Nick’s Place

We are located just 15 miles east of Holbrook on i-40 east. We are just one exit from the petrified forest national park. Amazing sunsets and sunrises and at night on a clear night thousands of stars making it perfect for star gazers.

This is northern az so in the summer its hot in the winter we can get snow lots of open space and dirt. Beautiful skys both day and night. You can star gaze and enjoy the beauty of the high desert. Campsite 1 and 2 are for our campers who are renting the 4 person tents. The rest are for campers, rvs, personal tents or cars. Just 1 exit away from the main entrance for the petrified forest national park/ painted desert. There are restrooms available just down the road at the painted desert Indian center from 8am to 6pm daily. When u get off i40 From either direction u will go to adamana rd make a left into adamana road and the the first right on to sun country and then the first left on northern star road go almost all the way to the end of the road and there is a little private road that comes up strait to us and will see our place and the tents ahead . We are always willing to help someone so if u have Any questions or concerns just give us a call . Between the hours of about 2am and 3am the milky way is most visible And it sure is gorgeous! Desert skies Holbrook az

The Painted Desert Ranger Cabin is a backcountry, off grid cabin built by Ranger Ross in 2011. Ranger Ross lived in the cabin while he worked as a resource protection ranger at the Petrified Forest National Park until 2015 when he transferred to the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. Ranger Ross now allows backcountry hikers to enjoy the cabin by renting it out by the night or the week.

The ranger cabin is a rustic off grid cabin that offers almost no amenities. There is no concierge, room service, or continental breakfast. There is no linen service or fancy little bottles of shampoo. It does however, offer beautiful views of the Painted Dessert wilderness, quiet serenity, and amazing star gazing opportunities. All from the comfort of a cozy one room cabin with a queen size bed and a flush toilet.

The ranger cabin sits on the boarder of the north wilderness area of the Petrified Forest National Park. There are great hiking and exploration opportunities right out the back door of the cabin. For more information visit the park's website.

Million dollar sunsets on an ever changing bluff over a valley. Various wildlife, lots of scrub juniper and wildflowers. Very quiet. Beautiful start filled night skies.

Primitive camping. I'm just starting and getting water set up with outdoor showers by next season.

You must have a high clearance vehicle to access property. 4-wheel drive might be needed in rainy/snowy times.

I have a central fire pit. No fires at camp sites. Friday night s'mores depending on weather and campers interested. Well behaved Kids welcome with parent/guardian/ 15 years old or older well behaved sibling.

Desert Falcon Ranch, LLC

There is no RV, car, or front country camping in the park. There is no boondocking, dispersed or “primitive” camping, or just pulling off into a parking area.

There is only backpacking/hiking into the designated Petrified Forest National Wilderness Area to spend the night in the park, at least a half mile from your vehicle. Please be prepared for this adventure!  Remember to LNT. 

The backpacking wilderness permit is free. You may obtain it in person from either visitor centers on the day that you want to backpack. Each vehicle must have a permit. The permits are available until 4:30 pm.

There are private campgrounds throughout Navajo and Apache Counties, in and around Holbrook, Sun Valley, St. Johns, Joseph City, and other communities.

Groups

Group camping is limited to 8. Because of the fragile soils and landscape features, minimum impact camping is very important. This includes limiting the number of people within an area.

We are a 20 acre camp / glamping site. We are nestled between the Arizona Moutains with beautiful views of nature. We have several ammenities such as bonfire pits and grills. You can Camp in a tent, RV, or book one of our glamping Bell Tents!
