Accessible via a narrow, winding paved road that turns to dirt for the final quarter-mile, Riverview Campground sits on Bureau of Land Management property at $5 per night. The access road features tight hairpin turns and steep grades that limit RVs to 35 feet or shorter, requiring careful navigation for larger rigs.
The campground provides designated sites with ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings spread across open terrain. Each site offers plenty of space between neighbors, and vault toilets plus a water spigot serve the camping area. The Gila River flows nearby within walking distance, though the water often runs muddy and fast, particularly after monsoon rains. Sara noted the "river was flowing fast and looked like chocolate" during her post-rain visit.
Multiple trail systems radiate from the campground, accommodating hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and OHV enthusiasts. A nearby day-use area includes volleyball and horseshoe facilities. Boat ramps provide river access both two miles before the campground and further upstream. Cell service remains spotty, with Verizon showing no signal according to recent visitors.
The combination of low-cost camping, river proximity, and diverse recreational access makes this spot well-suited for campers comfortable with challenging road conditions and seeking trail-based activities. For additional options, see campsites near Safford.
