    Green River Campground — Dinosaur National Monument

    Typical NPS campground in a beautiful setting

    General: 83 sites in three loops; two are by reservation only, and the third is FCFS. 

    Site Quality: All sites are level and have paved camper pads. Some are back-in, and some are pull-through. I’m guessing we reserved our site (A9) since it was riverfront, but this site (unlike most of the other pull-through sites) barely fit our 18-foot van; it was challenging to park off the road. This site would be better suited for tent campers, but I do not believe it was designated as such. 

    Bathhouse: Clean but very basic typical NPS bathroom. Two stalls and one sink. Soap but no paper towels or air dryers. No ADA stall access. No showers. 

    Activities: Plenty to do in the (very large) Dinosaur NM, but aside from the River Trail with access from the A loop, I didn’t see much to do in the campground. The River Trail (2+ miles round trip) is worth taking for the views of the Green River. No dump station. Firewood is available for $8.50 per bundle. 

    This was our first time in Dinosaur NM, and there is so much to do that our two nights here were not enough. Plus it was very hot, slowing us down a bit. The campground was quiet, and there was a decent night sky. We’d come back at a different time of year when the weather was more amenable for exploring.

    Riverside RV Resort

    Great Place

    Got here thinking I was going to have to do a back-in, instead they gave us a pullthru☆☆☆☆☆. The roads and sites are asphalted, don't know about the rest but pullthru sites have two each electric post, water hydrants, and sewer ports. One set towards the rear of site other about midway. Mowed grass in-between sites and not crowded. Shade is kinda short supply. This place is in My list stop here anytime. Wife dealt with the people on sign in and Sunday Afternoon, came back to Rig in a good mood so with that I'd say they were friendly. If Your hot there is a river that adjoins the Park.

    Monte Cristo

    Restful and beautiful

    At an elevation of 8,950 ft, days are cool here, and the nights are even cooler. We were here in mid-July, and all the mountain flowers were in mid-bloom.

    The campsites on the southwest side of the campground are the best (Loops A, B, and C). The sites on that side are well-spaced with lots of spruce and aspen trees between, as well as an amazing mountain garden of flowering plants that provides a beautiful privacy screen.

    The vault toilets throughout the campground are clean and well-stocked, and even have garbage cans. There are water spigots at all of the toilets, and all of them were turned on when we were there. There are no actual RV hookups, though.

    Our favorite section is Loop C (Sites 15, 16, and 17). We stayed at Site 15, which worked well for our campervan, but the drive-through in which we parked our van would've been a little too steep if we hadn't had leveling blocks. Site 16 just up the road is very level. It also offers better options for pitching a tent compared to Site 15.

    On the other side of Loop C, the only other campsite on the loop (# 17) provides excellent spots for tents, and is nicely secluded. The parking spot for Site 17 is pretty steep though, and there really isn't enough room for anything other than a short trailer.

    As is normal for mid-July in the Wasatch, the mosquitos were out in full force. We had to douse ourselves in bug spray, and we still got more than a few bites, nonetheless. The camp host (Michael) told me that normally they would have already sprayed for the female mosquitos (i.e., the ones that bite), but budget cuts to the Forest Service have reduced the mosquito-abatement team to one person, who is the sole person now responsible for 88 different campgrounds in northern Utah.

    There aren't a lot of hiking opportunities in the area other than an ATV trail that runs near the campground, but we were content just to chill in the cool mountain air and to stargaze at night.

    Sleepy Hollow Campground

    Great Mom and Pop Campground

    Stayed 2 nights here and it was great. It’s just outside of Capitol Reef and minutes from the Bentonite Hills. They have hot showers, flush toilets, electric hookups, dump station, potable water, and very level sites. Forrest was an amazing host and helped me overcome my fear of fording the river to get to the Bentonite Hills. 100% would stay here again if I’m in the area!! Note: there is 0 cell service. I downloaded the whole Capitol Reef area on Google Maps before I came here, which was super helpful. Sleepy Hollow does provide WiFi but it’s spotty when there are a bunch of people connected to it.

    Green River Campground — Dinosaur National Monument

    Last minute

    We came in to campground last min, lots of sites avail. Real bowlers- clean bathrooms. Close to sites in this area! But hot and scrub brush as in between sites- fairly private. Our site super private!

    Utahraptor State Park Campground

    Before it was astate park

    We camped here before it wasa state park. Back then it was free. This is agreat place to camp if you are riding SXS or biking. Plenty of easy access to trails. August is not a good time to visit. Very hot.

    Mountain View RV Park

    Smallish Park, Great Bathrooms

    On the edge of town, with family who had never been camping before, this was a great spot to settle in for our first few nights. All spots have a shade tree and a picnic table. The park was not crowded. It was very well maintained. The bathrooms were recently refurbished like new, and were kept very clean. Each room had both a toilet and a shower, very private. There is also a laundry. The only downside is that the wind picks up every evening from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, but that seems to be everywhere in south Utah.

    Moab Rim RV Campark

    Very helpful

    Sites are tight. Staff is amazing. We did not have a reservation. We were new to camping and did not think that mid October would be busy. We were wrong. Arrived and no sites available. They made it work with overflow parking for a night then a full hookup the next few nights.
