Muley Point — Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
As other reviewers have shared, this place is a 10 out of 10 for scenery. There are lots of options to boondock along the rim. The road hits the rim and then traverses across for almost a mile until hitting the official end of the road Muley Point. Many people opt for the early spots before the end of the road for privacy. There isn’t much of a sacrifice on views here. The end of the road, however, is our favorite - the views of Monument Valley, San Juan gooseneck/canyon and the upper ridges are special. There will likely be company but most people give you enough space and are respectful since they too drove all the way out here. Treat this place special if you come. You won’t forget it. If it is heavy raining (or has been heavy raining in last day), the first 5 miles will be slippery & soupy mud - 4wd recommended if really wet, otherwise 2wd no problem. The final mile+ is good solid surface in all conditions. A final note on the Moki Dugway… It isn’t that bad. If you can drive on a gravel road and not go off the edge, you will be fine. The sheer drop offs are legit and so it does freak people out who get nervous on curvy sheer roads. I drove my Goldwing Motorcycle 2-up on it years ago and I have seen LOTS of regular 2wd passenger cars handling it easy both directions. This year we climbed it in the pouring rain in our Class B - no traction issues. Many/most of the switchback turns are paved for security and the gravel portions have good traction. That said, I wouldn’t recommend taking a larger motorhome up/down it and I wouldn’t recommend it if you are easily freaked out by sheer drop offs: If these don’t apply to you, take the Moki Dugway to Muley Point - both are special.
