Description

Bureau of Land Management

Camping on public lands away from developed recreation facilities is referred to as dispersed camping. Most of the remainder of public lands are open to dispersed camping, as long as it does not conflict with other authorized uses or in areas posted "closed to camping," or in some way adversely affects wildlife species or natural resources.

Dispersed camping is allowed on public land for a period not to exceed 14 days within a 28 consecutive day period. The 28 day period begins when a camper initially occupies a specific location on public lands. The 14 day limit may be reached either through a number of separate visits or through 14 days of continuous overnight occupation during the 28 day period. After the 14th day of occupation, the camper must move outside of a 25 mile radius of the previous location until the 29th day since the initial occupation. The purpose of this special rule is to prevent damage to sensitive resources caused by continual use of any particular areas. In addition, campers must not leave any personal property unattended for more than 10 days (12 months in Alaska).

Had our own little box canyon

If you love mountain biking you will be in heaven. Tons of trails and natural and manmade jumps and obstacles… or nice dirt roads and trails for the less adventurous. No amenities, but lots and lots of places to camp of various sizes and degrees of levelness. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and most spots were still full but by Monday, we were alone except for one other camper. Spots are fairly far apart and there are bushes between. Some spots like ours are quite isolated. The farther you travel up the road, the steeper hills could be problematic for a trailer, but if they’re not full, plenty of spots closer to road would accommodate small trailers, rvs and vans. We were in a truck.

There was a lot of wind in the area, but our site was fairly protected until the last night.

Close to Zion

Very convenient place to stay close to Zion. About 20 minutes out. Near a mountain biking park so there are many road and spots that branch out. Easy to find a place to park.

Pretty cool spot

I stayed here as a base camp for Zion. It's 30ish minutes from the south entrance, and the road you are on leads to the Kolob Resiouvior via a really cool drive. There seem to be a few sites that are easy pull in/ pull out. Some have rough roads to get to the sites. BYO shade and bathroom. Hotter than Hades in July, but once the sun drops below the cliffs, it's an amazing place to chill while you plan what to do the next day. Full cell service (T Mobile) 5ish miles to civilization in La Verkin or Hurricane, a little further to Springdale. At least in July, not a place to hang out during the day unless you have rocking AC in your rig (I don't). Bats fly around at dusk, it's cool.

Quiet spot near Zion and Kolob canyon

Great spot in between Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon. The area is a dirt road with a couple spots to park. One large area near the front that could be a group site. There are more sites as you go back, but the road gets rough. The road was pretty washed out at the entrance when we stayed, but was able to make it up with a 2 wheel drive promaster. I'd be careful if there is rain, we didn't stay another night because it rained and we were sliding on our way out.

No services, pack in, pack out. No Verizon service, but service in Springdale 20 minutes up the road.
