The dog beach is so much better than expected

The campsites themselves are sadly devoid of much shade, and only a few even have a water view.  But the dog beach, a bit of a walk down the trail towards the lighthouse, surely exceeded our expectations.  Most places designate barely usable waterfront areas to dog beach. At first glance, the dog…

  • Our dogs don't even normally like to swim, but loved the dog beach, with it's warm shallow calm waters.

Great Location, but poor maintenance

We arrived at the campground and it’s right across the street from the beach in their day use area. You are also not far from many other beaches if you are looking for options. There is an awesome farmers market in Port Austin on Saturdays which is within 15 mins of the campground. The park ran…

Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50)…

Good state park

Like most Michigan State Parks, you get electric (50/30) at your site, period. There's public water available at various spots, but not at your site. Rangers are a good bunch here, friendly, helpful and work to keep things in line.

Most sites are very sandy (the whole place is ancient dunes),…

On the AuSable River

Lots of things to do in this area! The large campground is crowded in summer months and you have to buy tokens to take a shower, but the views and access to the River are spectacular.

Perfect Early Fall Camping

Camped here in early fall. The area around here is beautiful with lots of sights and trails. This park has a wide variety of individuals and many long term residents but the staff were pretty friendly and the lake is beautiful (especially in the early morning).

All you need in one spot

The Luzerne Express Campground is literally all you need in one spot. The whole place is incredibly accommodating. Friendly, helpful staff. There is an array of sites available plus RV’s and Cabins for rent so winter camping here is a blast. The area is a trail riders Mecca. From horseback riding…

Location!

Sites are not shaded or secluded at all. But the stretch of sandy Huron beach in the park is still fantastic, despite high lake levels. LOVE the campground coffee cart.

Super Fun During Halloween

We have gone to this campground a few times - specifically for their Halloween festivities. This past year they weren’t as exciting as they have been (no hay ride in the forest) but still fun!! Campsites have always been a decent size and we always enjoy visiting the beach across the road. Clean…

Beautiful Park

Beautiful park with a great location. Private beaches and trails make this park feel very secluded. My family and friends love it!

Rude Staff

We have a great group of campers, totalling 12 sites. Park was beautiful. However, every night we had visits from the officers threatening to kick us out due to excessive noise. Extremely disrespectful. We had 6 baby monitors we could hear but small laughter amongst adults is not tolerated at this…

Nice getaway

We camped in the west loop area of the state park with our dog and it was an awesome trip! The campsites were tidy, the bathrooms were exceptionally clean, and the location to the beach was perfect. The road was a little noisy but when you had some music going it wasn’t too bad. The stars were…

Awesome !

By far this is our favorite park this year. Surrounded by water on all sides, sunrise and sunsets are gorgeous. Plenary of beach for everyone including a dog beach!!! Bathrooms are well kept and clean. Kayak rentals are available as well.

Views!

Love this park, right down the street from our family cabin and you get the best views of the Au Sauble river for miles around. Right in the heart of Mio, and if you're in the area be sure to check out "the bakery" (Amish bakery that is unbelievably delicious)
