    Sterling State Park Campground

    Nice stop

    Sterling State Park, Quick Two-Night Stay

    We stopped at Sterling State Park for two nights and had a really nice stay. We were on an electric-only site, but the view and the short walk to the beach were awesome.

    If you can score one of the sites along the edge of the campground that overlooks the beach, or one that backs up to the woods, I’d definitely recommend it. Those sites have a much better setting. Most of the other sites are more out in the open, with very little shade and not much of a view.

    The central part of the campground feels busy and crowded, but surprisingly, most of the sites are actually spaced out pretty well. We didn’t use the bathhouse, so we can’t comment on its cleanliness or condition.

    The campground itself was neatly mowed, and the staff seemed to do a good job keeping up with the grounds and general maintenance. We didn’t notice much trash or anything else that would be a negative.

    The beach right in front of the campground was probably our favorite part. It was clean, spacious, and never seemed particularly busy while we were there.

    Overall, Sterling State Park was a great stop for a couple of nights. If you can get one of the better-located sites, especially along the beach or woods, it makes the stay even better.

    Leelanau State Park Campground

    Perfect beachfront campsite

    I loved everything about this campsite. It had its own view and access to the beach. In fact, it was so close you could hear the waves throughout the night. I sat outside on a clear night and gazed at the stars for I don’t know how long. It was so peaceful. I highly recommend one of the sites along the water, but the other campsites looked very nice too.

    Yes, sites are close, but I didn’t have a problem with lack of privacy.

    At site 25, there is not a lot of cover during the day, so it can get quite hot if there’s no other shelter.

    Carp River Campground

    Peaceful with helpful hosts

    This is our third time here and we love it! The hosts this year are fantastic! Very helpful and checked on us to make sure all was good. Gave us some good pointers for the area. We used our thermacells and mosquitos were not a problem. I love just relaxing in the forest but we did a day trip to the Soo Locks only a half hour away. But again, the hosts made this special.

    Had to buy this campsite because there’s damn near nothing for dispersed in Michigan. Lotta kids screaming into the night, campsites are in sight of each other, lots of mosquitoes, but yknow what can you really expect? I think upwards of $30 is a rip-off, I can’t even find an electrical hook-up if I wanted one. Granted, I got here at night and didn’t look very hard. It’d be 5 stars if it were 15 bucks, which is what I think its worth.

    Indian Lake RV Resort and Campground

    DIRTY and misleading website

    Our stay at Indian Lake RV Resort was extremely disappointing. The campground did not match what was advertised. Pics are misleading on website. The bathrooms were not maintained as posted. A sign stated they would be cleaned daily between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., but we arrived Tuesday afternoon and did not see them cleaned until Thursday. During that time, one toilet in the men's restroom remained clogged and full for two days. I informed the owner that the hand soap dispenser was empty. Later, as I was walking down the road, he called out,"Hey you, here's soap," and handed me a bottle to put in the restroom myself. Guests should not be expected to restock the campground bathrooms. Other than that interaction, we never saw the owner or staff around the campground after check-in. There was also a constant sewer odor near our friend's campsite by the septic field. Several amenities were either unavailable or not as advertised. The rec hall was never open during our stay. The beach was cluttered with toys and did not appear to be maintained. We were also disappointed that there was no boat launch available as we had expected. Overall, the campground felt dirty, poorly maintained, and misrepresented. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again or recommend it to others.
