Not very private

Great location in relation to Lake Superior but sites are not very private. Lots of firewood available for sale.

Very Nice & Clean

They were still building much of this campground when we visited. All the sites felt intimate and private. The bathrooms were rustic but clean and big. They were building really nice cabins as well. Would definitely return.

Twin Lakes Campground

Beautiful lake, great swimming, too many four wheelers. Local black bears. Close to Lake of the Clouds and the Porcupine mountains.

Steps from Lake Superior

This was a great car campground visited in August 2020. We could walk to the visitor center via a short wooded trail, walk or drive to a small convenience store with firewood, and step over to Lake Superior each evening for sunrise. Lots of black flies in Northern Michigan during late summer, and…

Fantastic setting

Found this place by chance. Amazing location across from Lake Superior. The best sunsets I’ve seen west of the pacific.

Excellent Escape!

If you're looking for an off-the-grid escape this is it.  The hike-in/paddle in camping spots are equipped with a picnic table and a firepit, everything else is up to you.  I have been going here yearly for the last 10ys and absolutely love it!  The only downside is the fishing has gone downhill…

Spacious

We stayed here to visit Porcupine Mountain State Park. We enjoyed the park, had some great hikes along water falls and spending time along the shore of Lake Superior.

Check-in was smooth and they offered us several options of sites to pick from. The campground seems to be well maintained and some…

Beautiful beyond belief

The hike in was one of the most beautiful switch back type hikes, with breathtaking views of the gorge on the way down, a quick hike to the top of gorge once you’re down, then look down and see the waterfalls!

Why would anyone pay to stay here..

I will be totally transparent and say I definitely prefer rustic or dispersed campsites.. however, I always give state parks an honest chance.

Baraga State Park... I have tried. Ohh, have I tried to like you over the years.

However, this is the WORST example of what a Michigan DNR campground can…

Mountains in Michigan? And, on the shores of Lake Superior? Amazing!

Union Bay is the only “modern” campground in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness, offering around 100 fully-reservable, electric sites with access to a modern bathroom and shower house. The lakeside sites, as you can imagine, are the most popular and spacious, and most often booked 6 months in…

  • Lakeside campsites are beautiful, but the pounding shore can be very loud at times.
  • The gales of November came early.
  • Lots of grass, but a ton of mud too. Come prepared.
