Straightforward little campsite

There are 8-10 spots available, all but one of which are drive-in. I think a smaller RV or third-wheel could get into the first and last spots, otherwise, all the spots looked suitable for tent or hammock camping.

We had enough Verizon coverage to get emails and make calls but not enough to…

  • The entrance to the campsite coming from the expressway
  • Self-service area and posterboard. (There is no trash-pickup here)
  • A typical site with a picnic table and a fire ring.

In the Heart of the Park!

Clean restrooms, coin-OP showers, very well-maintained fire pits, and within biking or walking distance of the visitor's center (where the tours run from).

Definitely book cave tours in advance. When I visited they only had one walk-in tour available due to Covid restrictions.

It was still…

Solid Backup in Mammoth Cave NP

I originally booked three nights here to explore Mammoth Cave.

I arrived to find the campground pretty much empty, but a lot further from the main area of the park than I thought.

Poor research on my part....

Ended up transferring over to another campground closer to the main park entrance.…

Fun in Bardstown

My Old Kentucky Home State Park Campground is a small campground, clean, and friendly staff. There is a golf course on site. Plenty to see, including My Old Kentucky Home, the tour was amazing. Scout & Scholar Brewery was great. We will be back to spend time strolling the streets of Bardstown…

Good for a pit stop

On a road trip and stopped for the night here. The place was good for stopping on the way, but probably not one I would like to stay a few days at. There were tons of bees and daddy long legs all over the campground and the sites were a little small. Still a decent place though! Just know that in…

Too close to the road

Decent little place but the road noise was annoying

Nice view by the lake

We chose to camp in a primitive site and ended up right on the lake. We are here during the week so it’s really nice and quiet!! Would definitely come back!

Great Small Campground

Love staying here! Small campground and hard to get weekend reservations, but it’s a great place for kids to play and adults to relax. Sites are large and level. Easy lake access and a beach for use as well. Only downside is it is open for public use as well. It was very full on Saturday with…

Fun Lakeside Camping

Axtel is a nice COE campground on Rough River Lake. Very family friendly and clean.

The sites are a little tighter than a typical COE facility but there appeared to be many folks buddy camping so it was well suited for that. Most site have power and water and it looked to be updated not too long…

My Favorite Campground

I love mammoth cave campground a whole lot. It’s not just the caves but I love the camp sites here. The rangers are super helpful and even if the tours are sold out the trails are awesome. Especially if you love snapping photos of the landscape.

Bring level blocks!!

This used to be a great little place to go for a weekend getaway but not so much anymore. There are only one or two spots in the campground even close to level. The showers are clean and the whole camp is close to every store, distillery and restaurant you would want. Plan accordingly.

Big Rig Friendly Very Nice

Would have got 5 stars but the power would spike several times a day to 129-132 volts setting off alarm in coach. We moved spots and same issue but fewer times a day. Highly recommend Surge Protector at this park. Other than that, super nice, kid friendly, obviously, with lots to do right in the…

Full National Park Camping Experience

Very nice sites, clean bathrooms, ranger led talks throughout the day and in the evening at the amphitheater, close to showers, post office, and camp store. I enjoyed staying here!
