big, lots of trees and noisy

Stayed here a week. Had the place pretty much to myself especially on the rainy days. Outstanding features for me were the 4 pull thrus, one of which I scored,. Water is available here and there but not at every site. One side of the campground abuts an asphalt plant which was quit noisy at times. The park is on the river at the bottom of a valley. The highway traffic comes down one side with engine brakes bellowing and the passing lane going back up is almost as loud with truck drivers using every gear to stay up to speed. I noticed the number of dump trucks near the park/asphalt plant on my way in. Near quitting time for the plant the highway many feet above you sounds like the scene in full metal jacket on the beach with the helicopters coming and going,  the plant is on the same side of the river next to the bridge. I was very close.

Richmond, KY….Very pretty park

No septic which we knew going in- they tried to centrally locate the water hookup but it was on the opposite of the camper from the electrical hookup which made it difficult to reach. Other than that we’d stay again!

Average State Park Campground

My family and I stayed here for a night while driving to the Smoky Mountains. The campground has everything that you would imagine plus a few more. The bathrooms were very clean, above standard and the sites were clean, although offered little shade. The park appears to get pretty soggy following any rains so be aware if you're sleeping on the ground. There are some amenities for the kids that I really enjoyed such as miniature golf and the Boonesborough Fort that you can tour. The one main thing I personally like about the campground is the proximity to the I-75 and being able to access the park while traveling.

I would certainly stay here again since I know I can expect clean showers and bathrooms and friendly staff.

Decent place to stop for a night or two

The campground is a decent stop we’ve actually stayed twice passing through. Bonus it’s one of a handful of KY state parks open in the winter but they don’t have the water on of course. They do have a site where you can fill your tank though.

Perfect stay

After a rough spring and summer this campground has reopened just in time for autumn leaf peeping. The park itself, tent area, and rec hall are still closed to allow the grounds to recover from the flooding last spring and to complete renovations. The bathhouse, laundry and utilities are all brand new and they keep them very clean.

I wish the same could be said for how people left their sites from over the weekend. Although not the worst I've seen, litter in firepits and just left atsome sites was ridiculous. A lot of torn up turf at various sites due to lack of respect and the soggy conditions remaining since the flood and all the rain prior to arrival and after arrival. I guess it was too much for some people to park on lots where the reservations were cancelled or at the bathhouse and walk to their sites. 🙄

That said, it was quiet and we enjoyed our large, private site and the campground immensely. We're scheduled to return next April (different site due to length of stay) and I am thrilled to see what further improvements have been made. Support the state parks, all of them, and leave no trace!

Well maintained. Too noisy.

First the good. This state park is well maintained and staffed by very friendly people. I hate not being able to give it high marks.

But this campground is absolutely ruined by the adjacent strone quarry. They begin work at 6am and all you hear is stone crushers and beeping trucks backing up. Horrible!

Although this campground is not a true woodsy feel like many state parks, the small sites along Kentucky River give the best feel. We are on site 145 and our 27' just fits. They are pretty unlevel, but we like the site nonetheless.

A shame the quarry ruins this cam

Nice, packed in, lots of litter

Stayed 2 weekend nights. Got lucky we had spots 148 and 149. These are shallow with no yard but offer more privacy. Not good for adding tents or really much else other than chairs. Both fire rings were unusable due to location or being filled with garbage. You also can hear road noise.

The good stuff, it’s a pretty area. We enjoyed the boat ramp area where we could sit long the river. The putt putt course was very fun and shaded. Nice to have a friendly camp grocery store. Overall not bad if you want lots to do and don’t mind sites that are close together.

Nice, basic campground

We stopped here passing through for 1 night.  My impression was that the camping area was a basic field with not much privacy between sites.  It's good we had a 50' hose because the water hook-up was with other faucets between a few sites.  Not with the electrical hook-up as we were used to seeing.

Walk through history

Fort Boonesborough SP is near I64 and I75 Between Lexington and Richmond , Ky. The Kentucky River is adjacent. I remember watching Daniel Boone in black and white when I was a kid. The Fort is very cool.

I imagine the staff here stays very busy considering the amount of people that pass through. Then there are those visitors that try to get the most for their money and stuff as many people as possible into one site. And my favorite, the ones that think it’s someone else’s responsibility to clean up their trash. So here’s a shout out to the people that do their best to keep it working and try to keep a professional smile on their face while putting up with the less then polite visitors.

Alrighty then.....nice enough busy campground with some sites definitely more preferable then others. Knowing the campground and reserving ahead always makes your stay better. We visited in the off season so did not have to worry about the crowds. Showerhouse was adequate and the sites reasonably level. Sort of a “every available spot” used kinda campground and I would not want to stay here when it is at full capacity. I’m here for the hiking mostly and enjoyed the trails and bridges. The Fort was VERY cool. If my kids were still at home this would definitely be a field trip location! In the area is the Beer Cheese Trail check it out!

Great glamping spot

This is very good for a family that wants to camp. We stayed in the primitive campsite and it was clean and quiet. The grocery store and showers where very close by. They offer the opportunity to rent a golf cart for $25 a week. Fishing is also great!

Dirty and noisy

We were excited to check out this campground on a big trip from Michigan to Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana but we were very disappointed in it! The campground was overly packed - 2-3 cars per site on most. Our site was so dirty, we picked up a Walmart bag full of trash and we didn't get close to all of it - so much was buried sticking out of the dirt. The staff was not friendly. We also found it to have a ton of road noise. We ended up leaving after only one night (forfeiting the additional two nights we booked - they stated they couldn't refund because we booked online and They don't have our money)

We did love going through the fort and kids enjoyed that but pool was a long ways from our site so we didn't go check it out - drove by looks nice.

There was other sites that were grassy and looked cleaner - ours was dirt and in back

They do have nice paved areas to park your camper on.

Nice!

This is a very nice park. There were lots of activities going on the weekend we were there. Playground was really good. Many of the sites were small. They had about 30 sites that have sewage. The rest of the sites had electric and water. There were tent sites also. The bath house was nice and clean. The staff was super friendly. There is miniature golf and a small store on site. There is a walking trail trough the woods to Ft Boonesboro (a recreation of the original fort). Unfortunately it was a wet rainy weekend when we went, so we didn’t get to tour the fort. We would definitely go back.

Great little state park

Try to stay in the front area if possible. Some of the sites in the back get muddy if it rains. Stay clear of site 13 & 15 as they tend to flood. All others are great.

Primitive camping is next to creek. Plenty of trees and shade for hammocks. Most spots have level areas for Tents. Bathhouses was recently redone and very clean. Cleanest bathhouse in any state or national park stayed ed at. Walking distance to old the old fort location and new Ft. Boonesborough.
Will go back again.

Pricey but interesting

I was very interested in this area for the living history museum but as a tent camper I had more than a little sticker shock at the $36 price point not to mention the booking fee on Reserve America. That made this one of the most expensive campgrounds I have stayed at including numerous stops in California. 😒

The sites were well shaded and included the typical set up of fire rings and picnic tables but I did feel a little closer to my neighbor than I would have liked. I can only imagine the feeling to and RV camper would be even more suffocating.

The campground was noisy and busy as it was a weekend, and while some of that can be expected for the higher price point I would have liked things to have been a bit more accommodating to those times, maybe they should offer a few less sites so there can be a bit more space so if it is busy you don’t feel like you are suffocated by noise.

With that being said, not all was bad here. The things to do outside of th campground itself were worth some of the inadequacies the camp provided in way of space. The living history museum was one of the best I have seen in the Kentucky or Tennessee area and other amenities such as water access and proximity to hiking was great.

If I did return it would be during the week and potentially not during summer to avoid the crowd.

Great Time

I stayed at Fort Boonesborough last weekend and really enjoyed myself. The sites were clean, lawn well takin care of, staff very friendly, the store had a lot to offer. They always seem to have something going on during the weekends for all ages. Lots of kids enjoying themselves. The sites are close to each other but not right on top of each other like some places I’ve been.
Only downside is they don’t really want you using the beach so it’s not takin care of. You can use it but it’s not near as nice as it used to be years ago.

Clean Campground with activities for all!

This campground has a newly updated bath house and 20 sewer sites, along with plenty of other sites near the woods or out in the open to choose from. There's always a list of planned activities from tie dying shirts to early morning putt putt competitions, so that's nice if you need to occupy any children. And the playground and grocery store were nice offerings as well. Also, there's a nearby fort from the 1800's to explore if you have a couple free hours.

Living history museum

This is like no other state park we’ve been to: it’s a full living history museum plus a resort campground. There’s so much history to explore in the museum and fort, plus special events like battle reenactments, frontiersmen skill demos, art shows, charming 1700s Christmas, etc. Pros: museum & fort, pool, boat launch, birding, modern campground facilities, great spot not far from highways 64 & 75 (Lexington). Cons: no hiking or other truly outdoorsy activities (but the living history aspect makes up for it), no sites along the river (a few close to it), campsites are too open and close together (but it’s not awful), there’s some kind of quarry north of the site (so stay as far south as you can). FYI: check the living history museum schedule before you make reservations.
