We've stayed at Twin Knobs twice now in our popup camper. First time was at F26, second was at F24. We love how the outer loop sites have such quick access to the water.
Both sites are shaded very well and the sites themselves are huge. We could see other campers through the trees but we felt pretty well secluded.
Each site has several tall poles with hooks for trash bags/food storage. as well each site has a large fire pit with flip-over grill for cooking.
The firewood bundles are a bit pricey ($7) at the checkin shack, but I'm glad they are available. we purchased at least 7 bundles to have a pretty much constant fire through the day and night.
The bathrooms are clean and easily accessible. There was a bit of an overflow issue our first day on site but it was resolved in less than an hour by the loop hosts.
Pop's bbq was a hit both nights we were there. We ordered carryout (covid) and ate at camp on the provided picnic tables. The Dollar General is also adequately stocked.
All in all a fantastic visit which we will repeat ASAP. it's too bad they close at the end of October. I bet winter camping there would be a treat.
If you are looking for a quiet place to get away this is it! We called at the last minute and they were able to get us a spot with no problem. Justin our camp host stopped by that evening dropped us off a fire ring and firewood. (Also has picnic tables if you want one)this is included in the price of the campsite. The Bath houses are extremely clean and the camp ground is meticulous, with level spots. There is access to the river for those who wish to kayak. Beautiful place! We will be back!!
My wife and I love this small state park. There are two main camping areas, wooded and shaded for smaller rv’s, trailers, tenters while the other section caters to larger RV’s and Motor homes with pull thru and longer pads. This section does have some trees but mostly sunny. There is one main bath house that is quite nice and kept clean. Several restrooms are scattered throughout with flush toilets. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful and do a great job of keeping the campground clean when folks leave. There is a small camp store, though its been closed this summer. There are places to get firewood and prices vary from $5-20 per bundle or stack. Marina is on the other side of the lake but only rents small boats and pontoons. The lake is limited to 9.9 hp motors. OK fishing from the beach area and docks. There are a few hiking trails and they do have cabins that have been updated recently. We are there several times a year camping with our teardrop.
The park was beautiful and on a Tuesday/ Wednesday the tent sites were practically empty. Some sites are much more level than others, mine(114) wasn’t very level but was ok. The trails are beautiful definitely recommend the 4Cs trail if you have time they also had a cute little gift shop at the entrance. I definitely would bring your own firewood theirs that you can purchase wouldn’t light for anything..
We pulled in late, around 7:30pm and had been in contact with Justin prior to arrival. He was waiting for us with a colleague and escorted us to our site. They provided us with firewood and a fire ring and made sure we were comfortable. We were camped right on the river with nobody around us. Just one other family camping with an RV far from us. Bathrooms were super clean and showers were great. We really enjoyed our stay and here. Thanks Justin!
When you arrive the host (Justin), brings you wood and a picnic table. Helps if you need anything. The campground is always extremely clean as are the bathrooms. Water and electric on site with a wide spot. We were able to put up a 20 x 10 canopy outside of our camper canopy with plenty of extra room. Lots of space for the kids to run. We went kayaking (they have a kayaking service on site) and played in the river. Far enough away from the road that we didn’t hear any noise, just the river running. Campfire every night. Frog hunting (catch and release).
It was a great trip. Definitely be going back.
