We love Madeline island!

This is a trip we make every summer and it’s always magical. The campground is perfect for us. Some sites are closer to each other and privacy is a little hard to come by sometimes because the camp is almost always full. Because it’s not an easy place to get to (you have to take the ferry. It’s not…

Quiet and beautiful

Great location, right in the porcupine mountains. Nice trails to 2 large waterfalls, a staircase to the rocky shores of Lake superior. Just a quick drive to Lake of the Clouds. Be warned that half of the campground allows Generators.

Wilderness at its best

Campground is very rustic and beautiful, easy trails to Lake Superior from the campground.

RV and tent sites- some have electric and some do not.

Clean and well maintained.

If you are looking for a quiet rustic campground this is for you!

Large campground on a lake by a main road

This rating is only based upon what we look for in a campground. You may enjoy this type of adventure.

Our campsite is the furthest non electric from the restrooms and they put a vault toilet right next to the main restroom instead of over this way. We do have wonderful evening shade which is…

On a lake and near the Porcupine Mountains

Finding myself with a squealing front wheel on a holiday weekend was trouble. Luckily a local paused his celebration preparations and helped me fix the problem. We got to talking and he suggested this campground. It is similar to the state park and just down the road. He also said,“it’ll save you a…

Very Nice Facilities but Very Strict Rules and Unfriendly Owners

Great location, some of the best kept facilities, nice sites, but rules are strict(COMPLY!), owners are on you like a hawk to see fit you don’t break one, and they become outright unreasonable and rude—even for the slightest, and easily correctable misunderstanding(versus flagrant violation), which…

Clear water

This is a great place for hiking, swimming, and kayaking. I loved the swimming beach it’s so clean and big that can never be too crowded.

Zealot Leash

Overall a decent Campground. Lots are spacious. Layout of fire pit on sites are poor. For example lot 76, fire is offset to the left of the electrical post. This is a problem since majority of RVs have awnings on the right side and electrical hook up on the back left side. Our fire pit ended up…

Was it worth$162 Round Trip to bring our RV to Madeline Island– Yes!

Big Bay State Park is on Madeline Island in Lake Superior and is one of the Apostle Islands. The only way to arrive is by ferry boat. It is pricey to bring your RV. Ours is only 26 feet but we had a bike rack and two bikes that brought our total length to 30 feet. If you are a tent camper and…

Beautiful beach!

The campground is clean and the sites are fairly large. The bath house is kept clean and the showers are hot. The beach in the state park is absolutely gorgeous with access via a nice boardwalk through the forest and along the beach. The only thing peeventing me from giving this campground 5 stars…

Outdated Campground

Very run down bathroom and shower facilities. When we were here the site next to us housed some rather undesirable folks. No noise policy here either. Lots of mosquitos. Would not stay here again.
