    Platte River State Forest

    Beautiful Campground.

    Though labeled on the Dyrt map as Platte River "State" Campground this is a federal campground in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and run by National Park Service. It is a beautiful campground with 4 loops and a walk-up camp area. There are handicap and group camp area.

     Abundant large trees offer shady campsites. Sites are large with plenty of separation from you neighbors.  A nice feature in addition to your paved RV space, that I've never seen at another campground- each site has a leveled dirt area for tent set-up. Each site offers a firepit and large metal picnic table. 

    Camp fees are reasonable, even more so if you have a Senior pass, (unfortunately I lost mine), but I still had a site with electric hookup for $31. Generator use is not allowed, but if you feel the need for electricity, a site with electric hookup is only $5.00 more.

    Reservations available from May 1 through October 31st. I lucked out due to a cancellation. 

    There are 6 shower/restroom facilities in the main campground and even 1 serving the walk-In camp area. They are in good shaped and I saw them being cleaned every morning. Another offering in those facilities is a small room with a " camp sink" for washing dishes. Throughout the campground there are plenty of creature-proof trash receptacles, clean water sites and an RV dumpsite.

     I have T-Mobile with the new satellite back up and had good service, but I noticed my hotspot worked better in loop 1 than in loop 2 where I camped the first night.

    There is a Railroad Grade hiking trail that runs on the north end of the campground.

    The Platte River is close and "River Rentals" where they have Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, tubes and an assortment of other inflatables to rent, is less than a half mile away. They also offer a shuttle service for those with their own boats which I took advantage of. They have a store with ample souvenir offerings

    This campground was a great find for me, and you can bet I will return. The campground is open year around.

    Washington Creek Campground — Isle Royale National Park

    Incredible spot

    Easily one of the best camping spots I have ever been to. We stayed in the shelters for 2 and half days and saw moose almost everyday. Beware of mosquitoes and the occasional greedy squirrel. This is a must camp spot in the park and a fantastic spot to be one with nature. Highly recommend to everyone absolutely no downsides.

    Hill and Hollow RV Park

    Great campground

    We love Hill and Hollow!

    It’s a great campground for our group of friends who have kids in a wide variety of ages

    We have kids from 5 to 16 and this allows them to do what they love - some like the go carts area, the pool, the playground or just hanging out

    It’s close to pentwater and not far from ludington

    The campground staff are super friendly and we have had a great experience here

    What a great find! Bob the camp host was great fun and always available. Our site was perfect with a view of the historic lighthouse and Lake Huron. Everything was well maintained and the entire park was unbelievably quiet.

    Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort

    Do not Recommend

    I have been a returning guest at Timber Ridge RV& Recreation Resort for two years, and until now, I genuinely believed this campground would become my family’s yearly vacation spot. We enjoyed the amenities, the convenience of the on‑site store, and the community atmosphere. My husband and I even brought additional guests with us and encouraged others to stay here. The Halloween activities were especially memorable for my grandkids, and for a long time, Timber Ridge felt like a second home. Unfortunately, my recent experience with their strict cancellation policy has changed my view of the park entirely. Timber Ridge enforces a non‑refundable policy for any reservation canceled within 30 days of arrival, regardless of circumstances. This policy is applied exactly as written, with no flexibility. Even when cancellations are caused by unavoidable life events— such as work obligations or family emergencies— Timber Ridge does not offer partial refunds, reduced fees, credits, or reasonable compromises. In 2022, management exercised discretion and issued me a partial refund with a$25 processing fee, even though that cancellation was also inside the 30‑day window. That experience made me believe Timber Ridge valued loyalty and understood that life can be unpredictable. However, they have now stated that this past accommodation does not set any precedent, and they no longer consider similar situations eligible for exceptions. Their current stance reflects a strictly business‑first approach, with no meaningful consideration for returning guests or individual circumstances. I also attempted to negotiate a fair compromise that would benefit both myself and the business— including partial credit, a reduced refund, or a courtesy reschedule. My attempt at negotiation was ignored entirely, and their reply treated the suggestion as though it were inappropriate. Their emails included snide, dismissive remarks that reframed my words, minimized my reservation history, and implied I had mischaracterized my experience. This tone made it clear that customer‑focused problem‑solving is no longer part of their approach. The FAQ mentions the possibility of a one‑time courtesy reschedule, but Timber Ridge clarified that this is optional and not guaranteed. In my case, no reschedule, credit, or refund was offered. While I understand the need for clear policies, the rigid enforcement of this one— without empathy, discretion, or any willingness to work with guests— significantly impacts the guest experience. Policies that prioritize revenue protection over customer satisfaction can discourage repeat visitors and undermine the sense of community that many families value in a long‑term camping destination. Based on this experience, I will be seeking other accommodations in the future. I hope Timber Ridge considers how strictly applying this policy affects guests who previously viewed the resort as a second home.
