Dispersed by the river with shade

We were able to find dispersed camping if you keep driving down the road past the private ranch. There was a fire pit, shade, and a short walk to the river. Super dusty though. Dog friendly and far enough away from other campers. Definitely recommend, as it has everything you need.

Nice site-horrible road

Sites are nice with plenty of room. Problem is the four mile road. It is really rough. Do not recommend driving anything heavy.

Nice location but pitiful water pressure and wi-fi

This campground is located on hillside just off of Hwy  50 approximately 6 miles west of Salida, Colorado. A beautiful location. We stayed here two nights in June, knowing this is a relatively new KOA that used to be a private campground. We would have left at the end of the first day except that…

Beautiful dispersed area

About 5 min up the mountain from the lakes. Lots of dispersed camping available. Our site had an amazing view of the lakes. Occasional dirt bike riding around. Some campers run loud music late into the night. Early June, lake water is very cold, but refreshing for a quick dip.

Quiet Get-A-Way

Large, non-electric sites with picnic table and fire pit. Most sites are tucked in the trees and well shaded. If shade is important, check the campground map before booking. We went for a nice walk down the forest road towards Weston Pass. Beautiful views.

Quiet, beautiful campground

Beautiful little campground between Twin Lakes and Independence Pass. Our site had a large enough space for our oversized ground tent and enough shade to keep cool in the heat of the day. Our site was adjacent to the river which provided a loud background noise that is heaven to sleep to. The views…

Gorgeous views but some drawbacks

The valley this campground is in, is flat out gorgeous.  Amazing boulder mountains and tall pines make for stellar views.  Sleeping with the sound of the river was also awesome for the whole family.  But, it isn't perfect (depending on your site).  We reserved site 21 b/c it was right next to the…

Close to trails and Salida

We stayed here early-mid June. There are dispersed sites along silver creek as mentioned in one review, but there are more sites and larger sites if you continue along Marshall Pass Rd beginning about 1/4 mile past the junction to O'Haver Lake. Road is generally easy to pass with 2wd. Tons of…

Family fun!

Just got back from 3 nights at the Stoll Mountain campground. Our 2 kids and 2 dogs had a great time exploring the shoreline and fishing. Facilities were clean, rangers were friendly and helpful. Only complaint were the bugs, but might just be the time of year. Will visit again soon!
