Harvey Gap BLM Dispersed

Site was awesome, no complaints there!!! Road is rough, make sure to have high clearance and patience.

There was construction on the road below the sites that started pretty early in the morning, so that was a bummer.

There were people camping on the parking lot at the base. If you turn right immediately, there is a camp that overlooks the lake. The road continues to climb steeply from there, and there’s a bailout to turn back down to the road and re-enter the parking lot. If you go straight from the lot, the dirt road is not as steep, but requires high 4wd clearance. We got a significant amount of rain while coming in the second spot up the hill. The descent down was terrifying due to the slick muddy conditions. We have a Tundra, and crawled down in 4L. The camps are a bit slopey, but beautiful views. 4/25-4/27/26

It’s a pretty decent spot, wide open, Mountain View’s, but the dirt pulling in can be a little rough, definitely recommend 4x4 but our van did fine, careful if you have a hitch rack though.

We visited twice between the end of March and early April. The road up to what could be considered 2 or 3 small sites, aside from the bottom 2 was rough. When wet it is very slick and slimy.

Overall, there was a beautiful view of Harvey Gap State Park and we will be back.

This is a very nice rest overnight-point but would not be a “destination” location given its adjacency to private property. Good place for a night though!

This is an elevated, dispersed site with a great view of Grass Valley Reservoir, located in the Harvey Gap State Park. Partial shade with privacy on most sides, the east side has a rural residence.  Take Forest Road (FR) 8126 to the site located very close to Harvey Gap Road (0.3 mile). The FR road is dirt, 4-WD, fairly narrow (no turnaround).  There is a good campfire ring and space for more than 1 vehicle (see photos).

This is a great spot for free, dispersed camping! As others have stated, it is a bit rough getting into but I saw, regular street cars pulling into the …”parking lot”. Most were simply going over to the reservoir to fish or hike. I was up on the next to the highest spot and wasn’t bothered by any of this activity. The higher spot was too intimidating for me to pull my camper up to but later found there is another road up to it that’s not as steep(still daunting for most! One camper stayed a few nights in the…”parking lot” so If say that’s an option if you don’t want to head up any hills…. Bring lots of leveling blocks. I used all of mine to get my camper fairly level…

Super rugged road, I don’t recommend any low clearance vehicles. Unmarked camping areas, we stopped at the first one with an already made fire pit. Super fun view of the lake! I was surprised there was space during the 4th of July

Really pretty spot if you have 4x4 or something that can handle hills and off roading. I tore the back of my rv on a tiny hill entering the area. Oops. And its very u level by the front so bring levelers

This is a great little parking area across the street from Harvey gap State Park. There are two off-road trails coming off the parking area and you can see the water and people paddle boarding at the beach from the Sites
